TOPIC: Update from the CEO

FFC is like the RAC. You're both a member and a customer. It's up to you how invested you are, financially and emotionally.

I for one, think the RAC fritters its (my?) money away on Stadium sponsorships and Rescue Helicopters instead of lowering my membership fees or providing more motorist related services, but others probably have a different opinion.

You could say the same about HBF sponsoring stadiums and spending money on TV ads telling people to be happy instead of lowering membership or insurance fees.

But if they get into financial trouble through no fault of their own, then either help them out or look the other way, it's up to you.

At this point in time, the choice is not up to you. Which is the issue of contention.

Isn't it? I thought you could ring clubs up and ask for your money back.

No one has ever said that. What they have said is 'please don't ring us'.

FFC is not like the RAC. The latter still mail out a magazine to their members.

Teasea, did he make mention of Lyon breaking down on the side of a highway somewhere out of fuel?

From 2 weeks ago:

When asked today whether members could get refunds, McLachlan said "of course".

"If they need it, they can, but yes clearly we'd love them to stay because our industry is in a battle and our clubs are in a battle to get through and the membership is their lifeblood," he said.

"But all I'd say is I understand the pain out there and people need to make their own decisions and clearly if they want it, they can. But I know our members understand how big their contribution of membership is to their clubs."

Your membership refund is a phone call away, go for it. I assume there is a person left over there to take your call.

Bit of a stretch from 'of course' to 'you can ring the club and get a refund'.

What they have said is that they will give people options at the end of April. What they have inferred, through many carefully worded statements and comments, is that it's not their intention that people have their money returned to them.

Turning it into a petty argument about individuals wanting their money back is missing the point. People shouldn't have to beg for their money back. They should be given their money back, because the service they paid for wasn't provided.

After that, people can make a choice to donate whatever they chose to a football club without it being a **** measuring contest about how passionate a supporter you are.

A number of businesses aren't offering refunds but credit. Qantas and Virgin have offered this on flights I had booked. Some hotels have refunded or not charged but others are offering credits. I rang consumer protection about the airfares and accom and was told a credit was reasonable in the circumstances. So its not just the AFL that are keeping our money.

That's nice but the topic was raised on here, about the AFL. No one was starting a campaign to knock down the doors of the club and take the money back.

The AFL and the clubs have declined the offer to offer anything more than an assurance that they might tell you what they'll offer later.

Apparently a lot of male members are asking for a refund due to cracked seats.
