While I understand the point you're making, hypen and I also want the club to survive, I just can't agree with the way they are doing it. If you want to act like a club, then act like a club. Tell the members up front what the state of play is and tell them that you need their money to survive.
All for one and one for all. That's how a 'club' operates.
If you want to act as a commercial entity and not a club ie. we don't want your input because we make the decisions, then you get treated that way and are held accountable. That corporate entity took the money under particular circumstances and is obligated to produce what people have paid for or return their money.
If they want to keep that money, they should put a case to the members and ask, not help themselves. The fact that they treat the members with disdain then pretend to be a club when times get hard doesn't help their case.
I have no doubt that given a choice, a large number of people will agree to donate that to the club but again, it needs to be by choice and not by stealth.
