Saw him in a face mask and aviator sunnies. Now everyone is going to be trying for this look, pandemic or not.

And that's a worry cause our medical professionals and sick need these more than anyone else.

How do first world countries not stockpile face masks for this type pf event? Its just basic disaster management. Don't tell me it costs too much and hardly every happens. They're disposable face masks!

Demand driven supply chain and an over reliance on one country's manufacturing capabilities.

I assume the club would have had some masks in it's medical supply cabinet, which is where Fyfe got it from.

Yeah, hypen, we did have sufficient face masks, gloves and hand sanitisers in Australia.

It's just that when this virus was just getting started in places like Australia, Canada etc Chinese companies in those countries were ordered to buy up everything and ship it to China. Apparently, one shipment flown out of Perth contained 3 million face masks, half a million pairs of gloves, protective suits, hand sanitisers etc..all up 90 tons of essential medical supplies all went to China and that was just one shipment.

The only way we weren't prepared was preventing pillaging. The supplies we do have come from the different states stockpiles that were created for such an emergency but we should have had millions more to be available

Consider the logistics.One of the major manufacturers makes 150 million a year. They have been asked to provide 500 million ASAP. They are made in France, which is also living and trying to work under more stringent conditions that Aus.

Most masks are next to useless anyway, they are comfort wear. If they were needed, we'd all be recommended to wear one.

Specific surgical masks can reduce transmission if dealing with affected patients, by reducing droplet spread and are being reserved for healthcare staff. Walking around in public with one is pointless.

Everyone wears those masks. But slapping on a pair of Charlton Hestons is odd - are the standard Blues Brother sunnies rare now, have people been panic buying and hoarding them?
