I see that the Worst is back on the NicNot beatification wagon. When asked to describe Stephen Michael the best they can come up with is that he is like NicNot but 30 years earlier.
I’ll try to put aside the absurd need to restrict comparisons to players of similar skin colour (casual racism?) and focus on the fact that NicNot is a boot studder in comparison to Michael. Michael was simply one of the greatest players to kick a footy, no comparison to current players is necessary.

As an East Freo supporter, I would still nominate Stephen Michael as the single best footballer I've witnessed play the game. Anybody who was a better footballer than Rioli and Vigona is clearly doing something right.

Donuts wouldn't get within cooey of Michael and any comparison is utterly absurd.

Yes he was something else, no doubt about it.

Very similar footballers but Michael could run all day. Natanui has no tank.

Michael the better player but I rate Natanui, he's a good kid.

Great footballer, top bloke. But I don't think I have ever seen a better game than Maurice's performance in the '81 Grand Final.

On a side note from that game I am not sure I have ever seen better sportsmanship than TI jumping in to sort out the blues between Basil & Jimmy Krakouer.

Saw that too, not live though. But I have never seen a better example of courage on the field than that 81 effort, he ran himself into the ground, against a very good opposition, and then kept running.
