I think the best they could do is maybe introduce a trophy up for finishing top of the ladder. You can't win the premiership without winning the grand final.

So with the compromised season does that mean Kiara Bowers also gets robbed of the AFLW fairest and best award?
She would have had to have been a mile in front when the season was cut short.
Also Roxy would have been a good chance of the Rising Star if the AFLW have one. If not, give it to her anyway.

And another commendation for continuing to lay tackles when even their high salaried brothers played hands off. We excelled at tackling and getting hold of the ball, by a country mile over anyone else. I can't speak highly enough of our women's team, their coaches and their courage. They're special, it was great watching them.

After Saturday's training drill against Essendon, watching how the girls play should be compulsory viewing for a few of the mens team. They may pick up a few pointers about desire, effort and having a red hot go.

If they cant give it to Freo outright then share it with Nth Melb based on their conferences. Even that would be better than no recognition for topping the comp.

I agree Walter. What they have basically done is basically slapped our girls in the face and sent them packing without even an acknowledgement of their unbeaten achievement. Gil's dismissive comments about the AFLW competition and decision on a non Premiership was typically smug on his behalf.
I'm also disgusted in the selfish nature of those girls from lower clubs such as Collingwood and Melbourne who conspired with their AFLPA voting that a decider would not be played on the weekend.

There needs to be something for recognition of the best team of the competition for 2020.

We can't have this bullsh!t of cancelled d/t Vic teams were 2nd and 3rd best....

IMHO
Why would they do that expat?
If they couldnt even acknowledge us last season as the 2nd best team after h&a when we had to play the prelim away from home to a side that finished with 2 less wins and 42% less, and wouldve finished 5th......thats right 5th, if they were in our conference! The industry in general, all thought at that stage, the conference system was a debacle and sure to be scrapped!!
And here we are.Finishing top in our conference, and top across all 14 teams, with no acknowlegement. And why, because the conference system fails to determine an overall top team-Go figure??!?

The girls are always the winners in my heart-and mind......

Congrats girls- thanks for our first flag.. We luv ya!!!

If cricket Australia can award NSW the Sheffield Shield without the home & away season being completed, let alone a GF played, I see no reason why Freo should not get the flag. Except one very obvious one.

Yeah, let's take our cues from Cricket Australia. They'll stop midseason to send over a women's team off to play a 6 game AFLX series in Chennai.

Cricket Australia. ....:. and the NBL .... and the EPL. None needed a full finals outcome .... just gave it to the leader at the time the comp finished .... and no one is complaining about those outcomes

Gees have a listen to yourselves. You want to hand out a trophy not won, which would mean as much as spot on the mythical all Australian 'team'?

It's an insult to the players to award a 'you were going good til we pulled the pin' cup.

Let them line up next year and win it on their merits. Anything less will be derided by all the other clubs and supporters as a BS trophy anyway. Does Freo need any more of that baggage?

I agree with Drubbing, whole heartedly.

Ok, before I forget or have other things overwhelm me, here's a few thoughts I have on our women's team this past season.

I was concerned that losing a gaggle of players to those twits up the road were going to really hurt the squad - especially That Player That Jordo Says is Ok. Instead, it seemed to galvanise the team. We lost two rucks but brought in Strom who stood up magnificently. We lost one of our best ball winner/distributors but Katie-Jayne Grieve exploded and Kara Antonio unbelievably stepped up another notch. No Hooker, no worries - we're actually better in the middle, I mean way better.

Hayley Miller had a fantastic season - fast, mobile and always in the thick of the action. Ebony Antonio as well - last year she looked a bit lost to me, this year she was right onto it, better than ever. Losing Steph Cain was always going to hurt - Bianca Webb came in and excelled. So too did Emma O'Driscoll, great positioning and a great set of hands that clunked many important balls (including a game saver). But you can't find a more promising newbie than Roxy Roux - she's the Buddy Franklin of our women's team.

Sabrina Duffy, what can you say - Hayden Ballantyne at his best, what a nose for goal and with a bag of skills and tricks that any player would envy (any gender). Her best year yet.

Gabby O'Sullivan was magnificent as well - attacks every contested ball hard, makes every contested marking contest a real contest and knows how to conjure up an escape toward goal like no other. Hell, even that checkside Ed Langdon kick off the right worked a treat for her this year.

Gemma Houghton has to be the most dangerous forward in the game - sure, maybe some better kicking toward goal would help, but her play on after taking a contested mark was fantastic. It takes a lot to get hold of her, impossible to tackle when in full flight. Best tatts in the league.

In the back I just thank the Lord almighty for Evie Gooch- without her we've got problems, with her the sky is the limit. As smart as they come, as tough as they come, there are few better long kicks in the league. Cuthbertson was excellent - where did she come from? - Stannett, Mascall and Pugh were superb as well.

There are many others - Stewart, Clifford, Sharp, Seth and Flood being notable standouts.

Sure, I'm an unashamedly staunch Kiara Bowers admirer, honestly who isn't? The best in the league, by a long long way. I hope she plays for the next decade, her football is game changing.

To Trent Cooper and the rest of the coaching team, well done - I've no idea how you managed to put (and hold) together a team like that. In all honesty I thought you would bomb out when you got appointed - for no reason, it just seemed more likely than not. But you're the best, you made women's footy in Fremantle the team even the most ardent naysayer has come to be proud of.

Once again, thank you all. Damn, that was a great season of footy.
