TOPIC: Bloody James Clement

He didn't just leave. He left and rubbished the club, unsolicited, then spent his media career hating us.

On top of that, he's Peter Bell's mate. Which in itself shows how much they actually care about excellence in governance.

We'll never get away from being a second or third tier football club if we continue this cultural cringe and continue to put people on the board who don't live and breathe the Fremantle Football Club. Where do you think Collingwood and Richmond sit in the priorities of their board members.

Bring in LaCras because he’s a mate of JLo
Bring in Clement because he’s a mate of Bell

Is it really that hard for us to attract highly qualified people based on their suitability to the role. Our current approach sounds more like how politicians appointment ambassadors to plum overseas locations than a pathway to excellence.

When Clement was rubbishing the club, was he incorrect?

We've all had a fair crack in recent times ... and in the main, we've been close to the mark.

Too true, Darth. Clement was driven out by a ruinous coach whose only tactic was telling players to get in and under. It was surprising more players didn't want out under such a one-dimensional and uninspiring coach who seemed to crush any hint of footy flair.

Look I'm not saying Clement should sit on our board, I'm not saying he is a Fremantle person but I do have it on good authority what triggered all this was poor player management.

Drum had this idea that everyone was soft and Clement the softest. I wouldn't want to stick around if that was how my coach was talking about me.

And he responded by leaving and potting Fremantle at every opportunity for the next decade in the media. So maybe Drummy had a point.

Remember when we made Ross Glendinning our chairman of selectors.

Remember when we put Steve Harris on the board. Then made him president.

We need to remove the cultural cringe from our administration. The best way to do that is to let the members have a say.

1. Read Luke 15 : 11- 32.
2. I understand a membership liaison team is to be set up within the constitution? Is this correct? Make your voice heard through this if this is so.
3. Protest in a visible manner if you don't like what is going on. Write letters to the paper expressing your displeasure. Remember the West will always print anything perceived to be negative towards the Dockers.

Luke 15: 11-32 is the story of the prodigal son. You can read it here: www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luk...%3A11-32&version=NIV
I always hated that story, it still sounds unfair to me. I’m more a fan of Luke 18: 20-05 which you can see here:

No one reads The Worst, why write them a letter?

How else are we going to find out what NicNat thinks of it all?

As for Clement, I also didn’t like the way he bagged the club at every opportunity - not classy. But surely he must now give a rats about the club to even put his hand up for a board position. I don’t think it’s the cushy number some make out.
Nepotism, favouritism, jobs for the boys maybe but if you accept those positions surely you want to have some influence. It can’t be about the Tim Tams and free tickets to the footy.

Grub,

the best way to find out what NicNat thinks of it all is to sit back and wait for a text.

Who needs to read the Worst?

As for Clement, regardless of his issues with Drum, he acted in a very unprofessional manner when he left the club and you would hope that he's matured a bit since. You would also have to acknowledge the risk that he hasn't.

That said, I'm not sure what a fisheries risk manager can offer the club in terms of improving the club sufficiently to make a difference in the quest for a flag. Since he's been appointed to "replenish the board’s depth of football expertise", I would wonder what special football expertise a bloke has who has been out of the game for a decade. I'm not sure how hard Alcock and Bell looked for blokes with 'football expertise' but you'd have to think that Freo met with a wall of rejections before getting down to Clement.

Then again, maybe it's just plain old nepotism without regard to merit.

“membership liaison team” - seriously!
You think that will be a useful conduit for members ( more correctly, season ticket holders)? It is simply tokenism that sets up false hope for the gullible.
It’s a bit like thinking that prefects can change the way a school is run.

I feel like you've skipped over a very significant part of that parable, Sox. The act of contrition.

I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands."' So he set off and went to his father.

But maybe he was the reason all those footballs were so well inflated for pre-season training.
