Not sure we’re George Costanza. We were presented with a bad situation (B. Hill leaving, or if you believe Twitter, gf's family reasons) and made the most of it:
www.hpnfooty.com/?p=32174

We got Blake Acres in the deal as a bonus, which wasn’t even considered before the start of trade week/month.

Plus, it was mentioned on Trade Radio that Freo (Bell) were the ones who rejected a pick 6 swap for Hill; given that the Ain’ts were after a couple of Port players (Dougal’s a gun though Paddy's best is past him), the only way they were going to get them in was to do a pick swap with GWS, which is what happened.

Plus, if Aish comes to Freo for one of the lower picks, that’s a bonus too.

All in all, pretty shrewd to me, given that we were dealt a poor card (B. Hill leaving).

One last thing to add: Regardless of what you think about using a 'moneyball' approach (pick points, etc.) to trading, at least knowing about it probably helps in pushing the negotiations.

Bit harsh on Freo. Kilda go the deal done first they wanted the most. Freo didn't get dudded.

Remember the draft and its pick priority, is a chocolate wheel. Just as many stars as duds in the top 10. We've probably picked more than our share of them.

I'm more interested to see what Jlo can do with the squad, if the medical dept can stop its homeopathic approach to 'fixing' players.

I'm of the same opinion, Drubbing, I reckon the improvement from players we already have will far outweigh whatever trade week, draft and rookie draft give us for next season.

I also think that we are not "wasting" pick 7 or pick 10 on Henry, he is a first round pick, so if forced, at worst we are getting him for what he is worth. At best, he slips past pick 10, and we get him a bit cheaper. What is wrong with either scenario?

Trade outcome:
Out: Hill, Langdon, pick 26, future 3rd & 4th round picks.
In: Acres, Aish, picks 10, 22, 58 & 69, future 2nd round pick Melb & future 3rd round pick Col.

Draft picks going into draft night: 7, 10, 22, 58, 69, 79 & 84.
I do have to give Bell credit on his maths. Picks 22 (845). 58 (170) & 69 (49) = 1064 points + 20% bonus =1330. Pick 11 is worth 1329. So even if a bid for Henry comes directly after our pick 10 we can match it.
Should guarantee 3 potential guns then nothing until pick 79

I think we did alright and Hill got his wish.

I’m not sure if there is an answer to it but I don’t really like the trend of players signing a contract then opting to leave when things don’t work out them either due to personal circumstances or other reasons. I agree there is a difference between dictating terms and respectfully requesting a trade but it places strain on both parties at times. In this case with Hill it has worked out reasonably well so that is a positive outcome but in other instances the clubs are often unfairly criticised for not getting a deal done.

I guess the best players will always have the leverage to do this and it’s part and parcel of the business.

There's more in a contract than just when it starts and finishes.

Both players gave our club good service and top effort. Sad to see them go but good luck with the future.

We did ok with the trades, not much to work with but ended up with some options to go forward - a welcome to Blacres and Aish.

HEY DALE - yeah, yeah, yeah, good result etc. Listen mate, just stuff all the stuff into one email - don't send multiple emails, video highlight packages and a bunch of sms messages. One email will do, I'll scan it before sending my membership cheque. Ta, Polly.
