I actually liked what the umpire did , he went over to the Giants player and explained what he thought was wrong with what he was doing and said if you keep doing it I'll pay a free, now everyone can just get on with the football.

It's one thing to be tackled or bumped in the game (that's footy) but it's not ok to keep punching or smacking someone on an injury they've just picked up in the game.

Interestingly, it is a rule, and the umpire was correct. Rule 17.12e states "a free kick shall be awarded against a player who makes unreasonable or unnecessary contact with an injured opposition player".

The carry on from people like Garry Lyon afterwards was absurd until he found out there was a rule, and then he had to knock it down a gear. Personally I agree if they are out there, go hard- but not off the ball. That is just being a dickhead. And not in the spirit of the game, as adjudged by the umpire.

I think conjecture around this rule is whether this relates to someone whom has just been injured and is trying to leave the ground- rather than injured and has since returned, but I think it works if the umpire has an impression that someone is targeting a certain part of a person off the ball. That's a bit gutless in my opinion, you already gained an advantage.

Yep Blocker, if he has returned to the field of play, don't whinge if you get hit in general play, but the targeting off the ball should be a free, injured or not. It is often the reason why the targeted player gets suspended, for dishing out his own judgement.
