It's amazing watching everything bend into place to make Rioli a victim. They're very good at this stuff.

I can not help but think this little rant by Suma has ruined his chances of being the next dockers coach. Something I am quite happy about

I'm actually thinking the oposite JDI. I think Sumo is showing the true under dog spirit going up against the big West Coast drug machine... All qualities that a Freo coach needs

Suma v the 7 West Eagles.
Bring it on
And yeah, Harves understood the rivalry. We need that back.

Reckon Suma has just shown why he can't be a senior coach, at least in this state.

It was naïve in the extreme to say anything that could be inferred to be a negative against the toast when you're a public figure. Everyone spotted a mile away that he'd just painted a big target upon himself. Total misread of the environment.

Unfortunately part of being a senior coach in this state is managing the media, learning what fires not to pour petrol on is one of the first things that should be learned.

And to be clear, I'm not saying Suma was wrong. But what have his comments achieved other than giving the other mob, with their media puppets a target to deflect onto and another opportunity to paint lil' Willie as the victim?

You'd almost think Suma has never set foot in WA.

Arguably one of the media's main functions it to keep institutions accountable. Ask the hard questions and apply a bit of pressure through balanced reporting or chasing down explanations that don't sound right.

From the Cousins / Kerr / Gardiner et al shenanigans, integrity managers pushing cameramen around in public places, the Gaff / Brayshaw playing golf lies to this latest 'Willie: the victim of an outdated testing regime' narrative.

The media in this state regularly fail in their role to pull them on with hard questions and rather adopt the role of being part of their PR machinery.

If Suma hasn't identified that ...

Darth, your cheque from 7 West Eagles is in the post. Sumich right now, is someone free to deliver an opinion.
That his opinion upsets the establishment in this state, is not such a bad thing.
After years of RoLy deflection and glib one-liners, it's quite refreshing.

Good, I'm getting tired of my life as a male stripper.

Its not quite as glamorous as I was led to believe it would be.

Even if he were actually the Fremantle coach, what would your concern be? Loss of members? Loss of sponsorship? Being seen not condoning drug use in sport?

Nope.

Being drawn into distracting 'he said / he said' media bun fights that he won't win when he should be concentrating on whatever coaching entails ... something like skills sessions ... maybe.

Right. So you don't want him getting distracted from the job he doesn't have.

As senior coach he probably wouldn't have commented..
This blustering overreaction from the Toast and their pet media empire should, if anything, improve his chances for our s/coaching gig.
..I prefer being naive.

Some coaches are masters of deflection - attracting attention to themselves by making comments and headlines, while their team quietly goes about winning games.... it takes pressure off the players, who can just focus on their game.

Obviously Sumich is playing the long game here... genius.
