I think it also stems back to the time when the current arrogant masters custodians of the game decided that the game needed rule changes every year and rule 'interpretation' changes every time a tribunal decision caused an uproar in the media.

With the lunatic emphasis on perfection where it can't possibly exist, the AFL is painting itself into ever decreasing corners of inconsistency. (Thats easier to say in Extreme Super Slow Motion than normal speed)

I reckon we should really just complicate matters and make it like the DRS review in cricket where the captain can decide to send it upstairs. Then we can all complain about why it still isn’t a perfect system. Imagine the amount of air time and articles this could create rather than actually providing good commentary of the game itself?
