i'm well aware of the trade deadline, the negotiations don't just magically stop on the weekend. They had all Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed to try and get a better deal which is effectively a week.

And nominating a destination doesn't necessarily preclude other clubs from placing offers and taking advantage of an opening. If Melbourne aren't willing to pay the price for Ed and another team is, his management will absolutely look at it and see what contract he can get.

Pulling the trigger early on a poor deal is a rubbish plan.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I reckon Melbourne having the second pick in the pre-season draft might have had a bit to do with this.

Biz, you are 100% correct , some of these other posters have lost the plot
Who is to say GC wouldnt have used their option to pick him up in the pre season draft (what would AFL do if he refuses to play, degrister him) Would demons take that chance ?
His stats are just slightly below Brad and he is two yrs younger coming into his prime, we were absolutely shafted
Maybe Belly was spooked into this after his epic failure with Hilly

The trade ends up being Ed for 22, which in my opinion is a good result for Freo. The deal could end up being slightly better or worse depending on where the Dees finish next year.

How about we keep the pick 22 and trade Bradley for Ed - then we don't lose any more face with the Deaf Cheats, Hill gets to his girlfriend and we get Ed back.

We drafted Ed at pick #54 (end of 3rd round) and traded him for pick #22 (beginning of 2nd round).

That's a win, especially for someone who can't kick straight. And about the price I thought (post #2 of this thread a month ago).

Did you all see his non-goal in the Derby, that was embarassing K Grade play and just one example of his unreliability.

If it was a straight swap: Ed for pick 22 then I’d be happy, the fact we gave up pick 26 and next years 4th round pick for next years 2rd round pick made this a bad trade, we have 6 spots to fill on our list right now with picks 7, 22, 79 & 83.
22 on its own will not be enough points to match a bid on Henry so our first round pick next year would slide down the order if a bid comes in the early teens. This is a very bad proposition!

4th rounders worth nothing. Ed for 22 and wait and see how close the Dees 2nd rounder next year is to canceling out 26.

Kela, are you an egirls stooge or a Victorian
Ed top 5 last two B&F , behind Brad he is second best runner at the club and at 23 still improving as a player, injury free and coming in to his prime, i bet for Dees he will be in their top ten players for the next 5 yrs and you think future 2nd round pick which could be say 30(in real terms overall that is what it is) is fair, get in the real world
We got shafted and Belly should have held out for better

It is easy to over value players from your own team. I am sure most Swans supporters believe Papley is worth pick 9. Ed is not worth a 1st round pick, pick 22 is a very valuable pick sitting just inside the 2nd round. I reckon it’s a fair deal.

Yes acknowledge he is out out of contract but if he goes to into the draft why wouldn`t Suns grab him
We did get pick 22 but gave up 26 , please lets get some real prespective
My opinion not Belly`s best work by far

Terrible trade for someone in our top 5 in B&F, given his age and the loss of Hill. I’m not looking forward to him suddenly being a superstar next year. We better do well in the Hill trade but I’d rather keep him for another year than lose out on that one as well.
