Ok, I might be raining on someone's parade here but is getting Kelly the best way to go?
If we were topping up for a tilt at the flag, I'd say yes, absolutely. But we are not close enough to a flag tilt to consider topping up.
The new coach, whoever that is, will be facing a fairly monumental task of rejigging the side to fit in with the modern game. Our skills are not going to be fixed up over one preseason. I would expect improvement and substantial improvement by the end of next season but it will be 2021 before even the best coach could lift our skills enough to compete with the better sides.
Are we better off not investing in Kelly (who won't come cheap) and instead taking to the draft with gusto and having longer term players for when we are ready to have a flag tilt? I don't know that there is a 'right' answer to this but I'd be interested in the whys and why nots that others think should apply
