Right. RoLys gone....and a discussion about Tabs' development unser Lyon has me asking the question " How many players did RoLy 'make' ...and how many did he destroy.?

The positives would be Walters, Clancee Pearce, and maybe Darcy Tucker. Reckon Luke Ryan created himself. Same with Hodor. Can't think of one forward type player - except Walters - that became better under his stewardship...?

The negatives : well I think De boar was a loss, ...maybe Harley... maybe Crozier, and I reckon he has mucked around with with Tabs, Wilson, and Cerra too much. ...and a plethora of peel 'could have beens' who never got a go...

I don't think any coach 'makes' a talented player. It's those developing their confidence that need the right opportunities. Michael Walters acknowledged the 2nd chance given and grabbed it, so he has nothing but good to say about Lyon.

Lyon seemed to have applied the same approach to Josh Simpson and expected the same result. Just more evidence he lacked imagination and was inflexible, the same as he set up his team on the field.

I'll fly a flag for RoLy here, and say that he (& the club) handled the Josh Simspon case more than appropriately. Set a minimum expectation, and J Simpson did not meet that.

But then, I pull that flag down to half mast when I consider the last 5 years of SHill's carreer. Kills me to have seen him at half back, and one cannot say that his injuries and the rigours of Rolyball, aren't linked....

Hopefully we see a free-er, more creative SHill in his next couple of years...

RL's minimum expectation of Josh Simpson wasn't based on Simpson, it was based on a universal base that was rigid and inflexible. It was a catch all that allowed RL to make the easy decision to turf him instead of actually nurturing and trying to help Simpson. He failed Simpson by treating him like all the privileged white private school kids.

He was never going to fit in RL's system and that is absolutely a failing of Ross.

Someone out there is going to toss a toddler into a pool because he thinks he should be Australia's Olympic swimming coach. Simpson's treatment was the first sign of what we hasve ended up as under the Lyon/Rosich regime, as has been said , an inability to adapt to circumstances as they confront you. It showed on and off the field.
