Walters definitely stages. Alot. The club should pull him up on it because if he cuts that out of his game I think he should be our captain. The players seem to really rally around him and I think it would be fantastic to have an indigenous captain. Not that there’s anything wrong with Fyfe I might add but just putting it out there.

The rule was introduced to stop players pretending they were injured to get their opponent reported. Not for players over egging high contact.

Watch some replays, Walters is going under high contact, not ducking in to it. Goodie you make me sick with your continual support of Healy & co's accusations against Walters. He puts his head down and goes for the footy, and if you watch the replay from Saturday, you will see the elbow hit his head. Get off his back and start picking on the real stagers.

You want a serious stager? How about Jeremy McMaccas - that bloke suffers a career ending injury every game. They don't have a golf cart heavy enough to take that load so he just grimaces himself off like Thor to the sidelines - then 'down into the rooms' for treatment. I'd lay money that the only treatment that wuss gets is a double Whopper with cheese and some loaded fries. Every game.

Walters isn’t a stager, he puts his in dangerous positions and gets whacked a lot. That’s not staging, often the umpires call play on believing he has ducked into it, but that belief is formed by a media that constantly call him as a ducker. I was also appalled by the comments about “you have to take as good as give” in response to Walters being elbowed in the head 50m behind the play and going down, did the mro even look at that incident?

He also gets whacked in the head a lot when he's standing upright and the umps still call play on. I think sometimes Sonny just instinctively pulls his head back a bit because he thinks he's going to cop a whack and you can't blame him for taking evasive action or do you think he should just stand there and cop it every time Goodie. He'd be permanently concussed every game.

Thanks, PK & Gumnut, I was beginning to think I was wrong in what I see. The media are running a deliberate campaign against him, in a similar vein to what they did to Jeff Farmer and the Carr brothers, especially Josh. Disappointed that an avowed supporter of Walters and his 2 clubs does not see through that.

And on the staging penalty, as highlighted on AFL 360 during the week how could Christian whack Sonny with a fine and then say what Jeremy Howe did was OK. It was so bad even his team mate Grundy had a bemused look on his face at the time.

Sonny was definitely harshly dealt with here and should never have been fined for staging in this incident.

That isn't to say that he doesn't stage and get far too theatrical a lot of the time. Sure, he puts his head over the ball but he also keeps it there and will continue running through tackles head first before doing a Darling and pretending he's been cleaned up by a semi trailer. I don't like it and too often he goes hunting for the free kick when he could have easily side stepped an opponent or gotten the ball out to a team mate in the clear.

It's probably the only weakness in Sonny's game and I'd like to see him just go hard at the ball and win it, the free kicks will come when there's legitimate contact. It'd be to his own benefit too with far fewer hits to his head if he didn't go throwing his head in the way of opponents unnecessarily.
