For years, everything about Roughy has been feel-good stuff and he went out the same way like the champ he is. You'll never meet a nicer bloke.
I did once, about 10 years ago - for the benefit of newer DL readers I'll post it again. I was coming back from a Saturday night post-game function Fremantle held at Docklands after a thrashing by St. Kilda (?). It was cold, well after midnight and I was trudging back to my hotel room in the middle of Melbourne - decided to grab a burger at an all-night Maccas. There was Roughy, outside in a suit/tie with two of his mates - Isaac Smith and Ben Stratten by memory. He was chowing down on a burger with two more balanced on the top of his forearm. I'd been to the WeePoos v Geelong game at the MCG the night before and he had a night out. I said g'day and wanted to chat about his game the night before, but he just wanted to talk about my team. He asked a lot of questions and in the end told me to hang in there, he really liked how Freo were shaping up. He just kept chowing down on his burgers in the cold, asked if i wanted his last one before opening it, then gave me a backslap before I went inside.
Big guy, as friendly as they come - went out like a true champ.
