It's really just another facet of the rampant nepotism in the AFL. They hire people with similar backgrounds to themselves, and then they recruit footballers with similar backgrounds, unless they're exceptional.

So you get a league full of 185cm midfielders from Vic Metro because that's what a league footballer looks like.

They need to seriously look at generating some diversity at football clubs.

They could start with a program to get more Aboriginal footballers into coaching. And maybe the WA clubs could provide better pathways for WA people.

Does anyone know if they have decided to use a football in any of the combine tests? Or is it still who can jump the highest, row the fastest, skip the furthest, jump hurdles, Javelin, egg and spoon, deadlift, side step, dead hang, Burpees, shuttle and broad jump?

What we need is for the AOC to wake up, start attending these Draft Combines, and poach all the top fellas to the Olympic Squads. Then the clubs will realise the real footy players are still out there.

They've had skills based testing for a long time now, refer here for more info. Kicking, handballing and goal kicking are a large focus at the combine.
