Looks like a good old fashioned power play to me.

Under siege CEO comes out and says he will continue next year, reminds everyone that he recruited the man most likely to push for his replacement.

Either the club goes hard and comes out and repudiates him leading to an almost certain end, or they say nothing, reinforcing the status quo.

The problem with this strategy for Rosich is that you can only use it so many times before it blows up in your face.

this is all Rosich cares about:
“We have grown sponsorship. We are number two in the league for corporate revenue. We are number two in the league for membership revenue.”

the reason they are number two for membership revenue is because they gouge their members despite having one of the best stadium deals around, and we are stupid enough to cough up $800 pa to reserve a seat despite there being 10-20,000 spare seats at every game.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Ross sold us a 5 year plan, just like most CEO's of a company.
How are we tracking with this. I thought this year we were supposed to be 7-9th and next year top 4.
This is how he should be judged, so it may be as I predicted we win 2-3 games from last 5 , most said we win none!
However if he is not close to his 5 year plan then hard decisions have to be made.
With 8-9 key injuries we may struggle for 2 more wins, and whilst the team ,especially the Peel guys put in a big one Sunday, can they maintain the pressure ?

Look at the way they play. That will never be the game plan of top 4 side, it's bereft of skill. Injuries are a real problem, even the AFLPA are asking why. The training and the game plan could be the answer. Other teams have injuries, but our blokes often don't get over them.

As for the 5 year plan - you do realise Lyon moves the timelines of this whenever it suits him? Some of us prefer not to be had.

After re-reading the article, and I am careful not to give Steve any credit he isn’t due, but this seems to me like he is calling Lyon’s bluff, effectively he is saying “we aren’t paying you out, but we aren’t extending your contract either, we’ll review that later on” it could be possible that they were willing to wear the $1mil to terminate at the end of the year with an “amicable parting of way” but after meeting with the afl last week and discovering they would have to include the payout in their football department spending (something north should have done before Brad Scott left) they have decided that $2 mil is a bridge too far.
So now the ball is in Lyon’s court, if he has a 3 year offer from the Blues or Saints, he needs to weigh up if he breaks his contract with Freo to accept it or risk being unemployed this time next year if no clubs are looking for a new coach.

According to this article in the HS Fremantle has the worst drop in membership numbers across the league. Only four clubs had membership drops - Adelaide (.5%), Port (4.5%), St. Kilda (7.1%) and Fremantle (7.6% or just around 4200 members). All the others posted membership increases from 1.1% (Hawthorn) to 19.3% (GWS) - we sit 12th in terms of members (51,431), Richmond sit top (103,358) and Gold Coast last (13,649).

No, I can't see being second in terms of membership revenue - I'd challenge that accounting fudge up. After all, losing 4200 from 2018 equates to a drop of over $2mil.

Membership figures are a load of BS. They have no correlation to attendances. I reckon half the members of most clubs are called Rover and Fluffy, others are unborn children.

To show real membership it should be one membership equals paying for 11 home games, 3 game memberships count for 3/11 of a membership and Rover, Fluffy and Barry the budgie are not counted.

That said our membership drop shows the level of disenchantment in our supporter group.

Steve, Ross, Dale it’s time to go.
