That was always Colin Young's strategy re: the Hills. Stephen's injuries may mean he never gets back to a stage where he might command a multiyear contract. So you leak it out that B. Hill wants a trade and now B. Hill's partner has gone back to Melbourne alone (Karl Langdon's Sunday Times column) all in an attempt to force Freo's hand on a multiyear deal for an older, injured player. Much as I love S. Hill, given his past history of injuries, he doesn't warrant a multiyear deal ATM. B. Hill has one year to go on his contract, so Freo hold the upper hand there, but Young ramps it up daily.

Why it works is that he's correct. It's a genuine issue, it's a long standing issue and it's having an impact of the careers of his players so he's going to make a bit of noise about it.

Stephen Hill should warrant a multi-year deal but we can't even manage a bloody hamstring injury without turning it into a quad injury, as if it's the 1980's.

In the 1980s the player would have been injected, given a half carton of swan lager for self medication after the game and made it on the paddock. Its a well known fact Bill Walker won 3 sandover medals with 2 broken legs. Jack Sheedys elbow was in constant pain (as were the players hie hit with it) didn't stop him and John Todd played with no knees.We just breed them soft now.
