Yeah hypen, I don't agree with your stance here.

Considering the club's current state and Bell's role in getting it there, there are questions about whether he is the right person for the job. As you said yourself 'give him a chance to prove he's crap' and I agree with that.

What I don't agree with is a 2 year contract extension when he has done nothing to justify it on the basis of performance. Nobody really knows if he's good at his job, so why not wait long enough to find out? Right now, all I'm seeing is business as usual.

It's the boys looking after each other and these are things that we do need to be looking at or there will never be any incentive to change.

This is my footy club and a state owned asset. It's not a cash cow for a couple of blokes to write themselves huge employment contracts, deliver garbage and somehow not be accountable for anything. Yeah we do need to be looking at this.

Do you people see the mess we are currently in as being, even in part, to the decisions made by the football manager in the past 12 months?

To me, we are failing right now due to a critical mass of poor decision making over a period of greater than five years.

If Bond had gotten five years, I'd be totally agreeing with you.

If - hypothetically - Bell was going to assess for a year and then go mad with the hatchet, wouldn’t it be better for him to have the security of the extension? If his reviews were wide ranging and had negative implications for all and sundry - including the board - the extension might give him a bit of insurance against them sacking him before said changes could be enacted or made public. An extra 2 years gives him some sort of realistic chance to implement the changes and recruit into the vacancies that would come from a much needed cleanout.

I say reserve judgement for 3-6 months and see what transpires. If it’s business as usual then, then lynch the lot of them.

Everyone at Fremantle is so focused on security and stability that they don't notice they haven't moved in 4 years.

Shane - because in my ideal scenario in 6 weeks there is a bloodletting throughout the football department the likes of which the footy world has never seen with fitness and coaching cleared out in the wake of devastating review. This reflects terribly on incumbent management who shortly thereafter renounce key positions - to be managed over the folllowing 12 months. As the man wielding the axe - Bell has two years guaranteed to provide some continuity to the club and throughout the process without fear of retribution from powers within the club who should ideally be gone before his contract expires.

Please note I don’t think this will happen, and I also have reservations about how bell was appointed, but I live in hope.

Hence I reserve judgement on this particular decision for 3-6 months but keep my pitchfork oiled and sharpened.
