Our problems in the Bulldogs game started when the team list was submitted - we left out a defender (Hughes), took out a speedy tackler (Switta), named two small forwards who haven't really been doing anything in the magoos, named two healthy and one buggered ruck giants and gambled on giving Fyfe two quarters resting in the Cam Zone to keep his sleeve clean. We moved Connor into the midfield (but he ended up on the ground more than his feet), asked Luke to cover the missing defender (and he discovered how real bulls*#t turns into hurt and a holiday) and tried Duman on anyone that hadn't kicked four or five goals on him before.
The Doggies laughed, said thank you very much, conceded the taps and took the clearances and kicked as many goals as it could under the roof as easily as nicking a blind man's cane.
Like so many, many, many games before last weekend we looked like fools trying to be a rebuilt football team. It had almost nothing to do with the players - they just fronted up to it. As they are now in the media - there was a point where they said forget it on the season (probably after the Carltoon defeat), they'll reach that point in the press soon enough too.
