So, playing our captain for zero marks, zero goals and a couple of touches as a forward for a half of footy has you believing that we should now throw Hugh Dixon into the Cam McCarthy isolation zone known as our deep forward 50? The kid may have a future why kill it?

Because we have to try out guys who have a bit of hunger in their approach. Some of our guys have definitely dropped off since media attention that they are out of contract and being pursued by other clubs. Ed Langdon top of the list there and Brad Hill has a big differential between best and worst games. At the bye we were touted as best last quarter team in the comp and we've lost every final quarter since.
Other teams are giving their kids a shot yet we keep going to the same old faces McCarthy, Ballantyne etc. At least Dixon seems likely to be able to play a similar role to Taberner though I wouldn't send him into the ruck right now. And I'd be giving Jason Carter a game ahead of Ed Langdon, giving him a week in the WAFL to think about his next contract.
Basically Polly, we have nothing to lose and the kids we may select should take the opportunities with open arms as there may be a chance they are delisted at season's end, such is our list management policy at the moment.

Yes Gumnut I can understand why both clubs in Adelaide have upset their supporters. But if you put it into perspective we have a lot more to be upset about. Both the SA clubs have a far better chance of making finals than we do at this stage.
The Port president has just apologised to the supporters, Pyke has called a huge meeting like Rick Hart did back in the day.
We continue to do or say nothing and have never been in contention for a finals spot, like they have, for the last four years and in that time have shown little to no improvement.

Giving Fyfe the Cam McCarthy treatment only managed to keep his white sleeve clean. Our best spread of talent occurs momentarily before each centre bounce, otherwise were a roving clump of eager beaver ball chasers. Sure, throw anyone into that clump but expecting something good to come from it is nonsense. There is no one in the WAFL capable of making one bit of difference.

You do realise Fyfe was comming off a pretty serious health scare? Wilson also limited but you play them cos there is no one better. I have no idea why Ballas got a game maybe his output wasn't so bad all things considered. But I did say a few weeks ago a time would come when we test our list and this weekend is the first realistic opportunity.
So hypen 'What about the stuff Lyon makes up?' what do you have in mind and maybe we can deconstruct.

Fyfe was pretty good. Awful in the forward line because there's no system of transferring the ball but around they ground he played well.

Personally, I don't think they should have played him but I'm not coaching for my career and my CEO isn't putting me under pressure because he wants to keep his job, so I probably have a different perspective.

Wilson is getting an injection before every game to keep him out there. Personally, I don't think they should be playing him but I'm not coaching for my career and my CEO isn't putting me under pressure because he wants to keep his job, so I probably have a different perspective.

That's what I'm saying Larkin. With 4 weeks left and minimal chance of making the finals we have nothing left to lose. It's a big opportunity to test the list. Luke Ryan is gone for the season so give Ryan Nyhuis a chance to get a spot on the list and players who are not going to be here next season try young players in their roles to see what they may offer next season. Sandi and Ballas come in this category, they get one game in next 4 weeks, a farewell game at home against Essendon. Ed Langdon, Brad Hill and any others contemplating greener pastures, demand commitment or see out the season in the WAFL while others such as Jason Carter, Tom North or Bailey Banfield get a chance to display their talents. We need to show a bit of optimism and get rid of the negativity.
And Hugh Dixon must play or we cannot trot out the line that we have no tall forward options.
And the sub par efforts put up by Taylin Duman in the 1st quarter should not be tolerated. I've been a fan of his before but his efforts so close to the beginning of the game were pathetic. I'm sure Ethan Hughes or Ryan Nyhuis would have competed with a bit more endeavour.

Yeah its a reasonable question - ie should we play them. I'm not a medico either and have no idea either who else plays with those limitations but I'm sure there are a lot who do with little long term damage. And if they didn't play most likely we would have lost by even more. I'll assume the coach thought we had some chance of a win - I know I did though anyone reading this place probably wouldn't.

Our problems in the Bulldogs game started when the team list was submitted - we left out a defender (Hughes), took out a speedy tackler (Switta), named two small forwards who haven't really been doing anything in the magoos, named two healthy and one buggered ruck giants and gambled on giving Fyfe two quarters resting in the Cam Zone to keep his sleeve clean. We moved Connor into the midfield (but he ended up on the ground more than his feet), asked Luke to cover the missing defender (and he discovered how real bulls*#t turns into hurt and a holiday) and tried Duman on anyone that hadn't kicked four or five goals on him before.

The Doggies laughed, said thank you very much, conceded the taps and took the clearances and kicked as many goals as it could under the roof as easily as nicking a blind man's cane.

Like so many, many, many games before last weekend we looked like fools trying to be a rebuilt football team. It had almost nothing to do with the players - they just fronted up to it. As they are now in the media - there was a point where they said forget it on the season (probably after the Carltoon defeat), they'll reach that point in the press soon enough too.

This discussion has knocked most of my enthusiasm out of me. For every positive suggestion a double negative response in reply. I give up!!

Seeing Bradley Hill steam out of the backline, with no one on his tail, checkside a pass directly onto the chest of a lone Bulldog with no- one on him , was the "Well..that's that!!" point for me.

The fact that one of our best, most experienced players could care so little in that situation, said it all.

By the way, hows young Deluca going. See he's played 2 games for 2 goals with Carlton.

Is he following the path of Menagola..??? ( ie not good enough for us, but completely good enough for everyone else....)

I’m not sure being part of a potential 20 goal drubbing against the Cats is the right sort of send off for Sandi and Ballas. Instead, stick them up in a box with free booze and food for the afternoon if you’re really wanting them to fare well.

I'd agree times up for Ballas. But I'm not sure its all over for Sandi?...37 hitouts ...most of any ruckman playing.
And I reckon hes been quite useful these last 2 games. Certainly not our worst.

I'd rather him than a backup, than a ruck clogging a spot who is rarely gonna play. (Ie jones, or Lloyd)

Yes, 38 iwith dodgy calves s a bit crazy, but he aint getting any shorter....

He's got more football in him but if you're not challenging for finals, your ruckman shouldn't be older than his weekly hitouts.
