Draft on skill, throw them into the 22 from day dot and burn them out across two years. Rinse and repeat - those that stick around get good pr on them, circulate it widely and trade them out for the players you need.

If free agency is all the go, be brutal with it.

Yep, Polly, if you do that you will get enough keepers, and the free agency and players wanting to come home will top up the list. The most important asset in a draftee, is the one that does not show up in all the draft tests. Durability, it will show up in that 3 year cycle.

That was certainly the GWS strategy. They regularly got beaten by 100+ points with 18 year olds. I'm not sure the Freo faithful would keep swallowing that.

GWS haven't reached the Grand Final either despite trading in older players. It's not easy to get there no matter what the strategy is.

GWS was given enormous subsidies by the AFL as a startup.

Massive injections of money, quality draft picks, assistance with setting up the club admin..in short the works.

Speaking of player development today we see our player development coach, Brent Guerra, sent packing. He had the job from 2017 to 2019, some of our best years. Maybe the cull is about to start. I wonder who will be next.
