You're perhaps a bit harsh on the match committee over Stephen Hill, Shane.

After all how could they possibly have known Hill's quad would be injured this week. I mean, yes, he injured it in the last game against Hawthorn but you would never have known anything about that unless you paying attention.

It really is quite difficult to do a spreadsheet showing us winning clearances, contested balls AND inside fifties and takes all your attention. Asking them to watch the game as well is perhaps a bridge too far. Surely the post match presser has to come first as that's where he performs at his best

I mean, Hogan was sitting on the bench rubbing the bottom of his foot on the verge of tears during that Melbourne game and they wrote it up as a "high ankle injury". Then a month later they say - actually it was his foot all along.

You gotta time these things right - somewhere between getting a relatively decent crowd in for a home game and the membership renewal period. Like Fyfe's treatment, youve got to drip feed the bad news to the fools you want sitting in your seats.

Raglan, when Fyfe’s arm falls off we’ll sign him for another 7 years.

Surely Hogan knew it was the same injury.

Or is there a standard FFC contract clause along the lines:

67.4: FFC reserve the right to gaslight the player

light reading for those who can be bothered
A couple of things about Navicular fractures
I. Jessie Hogan is the stereotypical athlete who is likely to sustain such an injury
II. The ideal management of a Navicular stress fracture is not known.
III. If conservative treatment has a likelihood of working, most people, patients and medical personnel, opt for it, before embarking on surgical options.
IV. Surgery is not guaranteed to have a good outcome
V. If a Doctor was to suggest to the club that the ideal management of a footballer, like Jesse Hogan, was to change is role of the play to avoid "jumping, rapid cutting, and explosive movements; that frequently engage in forceful push off, with frequent and repetitive loading of the forefoot", I suspect that an alternate opinion would be rapidly sought.
VI. The retrospective management of a medical condition is easy but a waste of time if you learn nothing from it. The better assessment, in my view is "if I was given the same scenario again, would I manage it in the same way".
VII. It is interesting to speculate if different personnel in the FFC medical department would get better outcomes than what are currently being obtained. I really don't know.

And what of Stephen Hill's situation, the way he has been brought back, ruled out, brought back then broken down.

Do you have any concerns with how we are going in this area?

An area where I can find no research is whether there is any downside to increasing the muscle mass of an ectomorph. I have mentally pigeon holed Steven Hill as "light build, lean muscles. As a young player, I thought his attributes were his speed, his skill and his "footy brain". Over time he has "bulked up". Over time he is getting more and more soft tissue injuries. I wonder whether his soft tissue injuries are the result of his weights program and whether he would be better served with a program focused on his running ability and his skills and minimising the time he spends increasing muscle strength. It is an hypothesis only but one I have wondered about ever since I saw what effect FFC had on Paul Medhurst when he was a Docker. If my concerns are correct, then there is no quick fix for Stephen Hill.

The situation with Hogan is an embarrassment for the club. How it has taken three weeks to confirm a reoccurrence of a pre-existing injury is beyond belief. Are their medicos totally useless or are they scared to admit that they have been duped by Melbourne? This is amateurish to say the least.
