TOPIC: Injury Management

According to this article, S Hill has hurt his quad AGAIN after coming straight into the side and will miss more time, Sandi has hurt his calf AGAIN and potentially won't be seen for a farewell game while Hogan has hurt his foot AGAIN and will be out indefinitely.

How good are our medical staff? I'd love to see the results of the 3 'reviews' Bell and co have brought up in the last year as a result of previous injury mismanagement. This is just ridiculous and not good enough.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Why do you consider it an injury management issue and not a player management issue?

The difference in intensity between playing East Perth and Hawthorn is two fold.

Sandi and Hogan didn't play WAFL, their injury recurrence happened under the watchful eyes of medical staff and coaches at Cockburn.

Blind Freddy could have seen Hill's injury coming, look at my post from last week. Top men.

Absolutely.

So why did the selection committee pick him? Injury management people clear him to play football, they don't clear him to play WAFL but not AFL. Do they?

I should be clear, I'm not restricting the blame to the medico's. The coaching staff play their part too and I have no doubt RL needing a win played a huge role in the decision to fly S Hill across the country to North Antarctica and make his return a few weeks after tearing a hammy he's spent the best part of 18 months trying to rehab.

i’m blaming the medicos. Year after year the same thing....recurrent injuries. Either they are underestimating the injury and returning to play to quickly or the rehab is inappropriate for the injury. I’m just sick of it

Sandi and Hoges I can understand - Stephen Hill, on the other hand, has become a real tragedy of ongoing soft tissue problems. I noticed during the game a couple of long kicks off his non-preferred - in my thinking, when he started using his right a lot, that's when his problems started. I'm surprised he doesn't just refuse to use the right. But he wasn't really in the game much - he bobbed up a couple of times, but not even close to being half of what he used to be.

Whatever the medical assessment, taking Stephen Hill to Tasmania when he has had soft tissue injuries seemed dumb decision making. It's a lot of travel, the weather is cold and one of the Hawthorn players referred to the ground as a soft 9.

He must be one of those part time $36 punters that the corporates love.
No such thing as a soft 9 - Its a Heavy 9 or Heavy 10.
Either way - It suits mudlarks like Crowden and Banfield and not an on top of the ground runner like S Hill.
Its almost criminal
