TOPIC: Taking it into our own hands

Lyon spent a chunk of time defending Crowley over the years. It’s a tad hypocritical to now be taking the moral high ground?

Not taking the moral high ground, just commenting on the current inconsistent administration of the game by umpires and the AFL. I would be quite happy to see an all in approach by our guys in defence of our skipper if the same treatment occurs against Sydney on Saturday. At least that would show some signs of fight and determination that's been missing in recent weeks.

The trouble I see from Rolys comments now means that every tackle or hard play will be jumped on by the umps!......not that that's ever happened before.

Well some of those free kicks to Hawthorn inside 50 metres on Saturday were from minimal contact so they as well make them earn the free kicks that they do get.

Michael Walters just got away with a sling tackle that knocked the blokes head into the ground, so lets not get too uppity about this sort of thing. It was a whinge by a coach who didn't want to talk about why his team didn't score a goal for the first third of the match.

Walters did nothing different to the eagle last week, and a lot less dangerous than what he cops every week, so let's not get overly carried away with that either. Freo cop the rough end of the 50/50 decisions every week, so why is Lyon only now saying something? Look, a bear.

Are you advocating for players tagged being able to 'deck' those running with them ala Gaff and Brayshaw?
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

No, Biz, I am advocating players being able to deck someone for a Gaff act, or for the type of treatment Read dished out to Dale Kickett, or the treatment dished out to Walters, every week when he "ducks" into tackles.

I would experiment with Banfield and Logue alternating in the middle with Fyfe and Mundy. Logue probably doesn’t deserve a recall after his game for Peel on the weekend but he never really deserved to get dropped either. The club recruited Bewley and Conca as a chop out for Fyfe but it hasn’t really worked out. Someone needs to throw their weight around a bit but I am not sure who that will be. There’s quite a few players that shouldn’t be getting picked at the moment but beggars can’t be choosers etc. etc.
Good lord this team is devoid of flair.

The season is effectively over. It’s probably a pretty good time to experiment but I don’t see it happening when the coach is fighting for his life. Lose this one and I reckon he’s gone.

The best enforcers are ruckmen, like the Mummy.
I think Sean Darcy loves the body contact. Expect all 3 of Darcy, Sandi and Lobb to play this week (if Hogan is still out).

It also means a recall for Banfield and Ballas

Goodie, I agree with your call on Griff to play in midfield. I've always seen him as a potential beast running through midfield in the mould of Pav. He is a similar size and can move at speed. He had been used successfully by Swans in the WAFL prior to his drafting but I'm not sure if our coaching panel has the imagination to go with this move which could free up Fyfe to go forward.

Unless Hodor has morphed into a knobber, he could never be an 'enforcer' - there's not an ounce of the mean gene in him. Our toughest blokes are Mikey, Wilson and Luke Ryan - way too valuable to get suspended.

I reckon Darcy gets a little bit of mean in him when things are not being done the way they should, whether it is umps, opposition, or teammates/coaches. We have seen him run over the top of a couple of unfortunates when he first came into the side, and while he does it nicely, he still looks like he means to hurt them.

I could understand Ballantyne getting a farewell game but if he is getting picked because the team needs him then the plane has crashed into the mountain.
