Are you saying our ex players are keeping quiet to because they’re afraid to upset the board and any future prospects?

I know we all feel the pain but we are the disenfranchised with no voice ( apart from Shane’s great site ) to influence the implosion of our wonderful club. ( this cab merlot is lovely ) With other clubs past champions with media access ( 360 AFL ) can weld sufficient influence on boards whereas good ole Freo has the WAFC to contend with not to mention the rabid Chanel 7. What can we do to drop kick Crusty the Clown?

Money is the answer, its the only thing that will force corporate types to the table. Cancel your membership, buy your gametickets the old fashioned way. You can still support your team like people always have just take the corporate sting out of the equasion. There are plenty of places other than the team store or AFL shop to buy merch, that are generally cheaper with a better range of stuff
When you are sent the questionare asking why you are cancelling your membership that is where you have your say. If we all send the same message then it becomes hard to ignore thousands of people. That's how you take your club back. Decide where you spend your dollar, cheer the players not the knobs at the top. I go to the footy to watch my team play, not too have a hand put in my pocket in the name of an "experience."

I'm a broken record on this. We used to be different and bold. In marketing terms, we had some product differentiation from the slime. Then the Steves decided that wasn't working, and we should just copy the slime. Get rid of the good bit of the song. Get rid of the anchor. Get rid of all colours that aren't purple and white. And of course they've only got worse with embracing the stadium "experience" of non stop noise.

Lets go back to being quirky and different. In our marketing and our game day experience. And that has to start at the very top. Sorry Steve, but you are not the one to do it. Yes, some of your gimmicks (the guitar solo) are great - but they are superficial - pretend - just for show. Deep down, you just aren't a Freo type of person, while Cameron Schwab probably was.

And on the field, I was prepared to give Lyon a chance. I still rate him - but again, he's not a Freo type. Malcolm Blight would be my choice of a Freo type of coach. The Scott brothers, Mark Williams, and yes, Brett Kirk are all people who'd be more attuned to Freo than Lyon. Again, unlike a lot of people here, I don't hate Lyon, I just don't think he fits in with what Freo should be.

And our recruiters have let us down, particularly in overlooking local indigenous talent. Maybe the Simpson and Yarran experiences scared us off. Dare I say it but when it comes to recruiting, even the Eagles are more adventurous than us.

There is no room in WA for an "Eagles Lite". We either dare to be different, or settle in for a long period of boring mediocrity.

I am expecting the club to speak this week, is that reasonable to want to hear from them?

I am wanting to hear some honesty; some acceptance that things are not working as they should and they are committed to changing. They can't keep preaching a stick with us line if they are not prepared to be honest.

I don't think Lyon and Rosich are capable of the honesty and authenticity this situation requires. And they know their spin has run its race. This was always going to fall in a heap and I wonder whether it's now started. I just expect them to hunker down and see if they can ride another storm out.

We get to decide whether they do this successfully or not.

We just lost the derby by a huge margin, only kicking two goals.

Why would you set you up for disappointment again so soon?

Where I work Hypen, there has been a rather dramatic fall in the number of customers this year. People have been asked to tighten their belts. And yet as far as I know, the top people haven't talked to us plebs about what has gone wrong and how they* are going to fix it. And it would be lovely to hear from the top bods, explaining how they stuffed up. But, as I understand it, you don't get to be a top bod if you ever admit to stuffing up.

*Or rather how WE are going to fix it.

there's two things here, one bigger than the other.

One is a 91 point flogging from our biggest rival, but the second thing is the 91 point flogging from our rival doing something has not worked for years now.

Duffield wrote a piece in that paper today along the lines of what many of us have been saying for years now. Things might be shifting, you never know.

We won’t hear from the club. It’s not as if losses like this are a new thing for the Fremantle football club. They should be, but complete capitulations like this usually happen at least once a season. This one might hurt a bit more because it is against our biggest rival but the club will do what it always does. It will hold a meeting internally, look at the ladder and come to the conclusion things are ultimately progressing okay, then bunker down till the next round of games and everyone forgets about it. You would like to think this would be rock bottom, the whole club regroups, and the team finishes the season by winning most of it’s games. It won’t happen though. They will put in just enough respectable efforts that everyone in the media forgets about the derby and the club will muddle it’s way forward. The fans, us, won’t forget but we have no real voice outside of sites like this.

The culture is terrible at Fremantle.

I think a bloke who can coach needs to make some changes. Maybe listen a bit more. I don't think it should be hard to do. Fixing Saturday night should not be too hard.
