What I’m seeing in many of these comments is a sense of being disenfranchised. I feel it too, it’s the chief reason I feel sense a sense of pessimism about our future.
The club treat us the same way they treat the media: we are kept in the dark. We see our team suffer catastrophic losses and we just get a pat on the head and a “nothing to worry about, we know what we’re doing.” Delivering spin is not communication. We want to be listened to, not just talked down to.
I don’t think the current administration will make any changes. They have seen us complain loudly before but a few games later we pull off a good win and everyone forgets to be angry. I think they’re at the point now where they believe we will continue to swallow mediocrity and downright awfulness, because we’ve swallowed it up to this point and they still have their jobs.
We need to put far, far more pressure on the club than we do. Nothing short of an English soccer club-style supporter revolt will move this board to act. But Freo fans in general are a passive lot, so I can’t see that happening.
A club can settle for mediocrity if their fans do. Perhaps it’s the Freo fan culture that need to change first.
