If not for two last minute kicks by SonSon we would be on five wins and sitting 15th on the ladder. Admittedly we have also beaten some top teams which makes it hard to assessing where we really sit. Yesterday would suggest that we aren’t a true top eight team.

In any other year we aren’t a genuine top eight team, and I wasn’t expecting us to be a top eight team. This year though apart from Geelong no team has a consistent form line.
I think we are on track although losses like yesterday and wins against GWS and Collingwood confound me.
We have a 20 year old leading the ruck and a 21 year old as our big forward.

We’ve won games I didn’t expect we’d win (GWS and Collingwood) and we lost games I didn’t expect we’d lose (GCS and Carlton). The Melbourne game was another I expected to win at three quarter time given that we are the best last quarter team in the competition. Also SonSon got us over the line against Brisbane.
So we’ve managed to put together 7 wins in 2019 one win short of our total wins in 2017 and 2018. I’m looking at the fixtures and from what I saw last night I’m not sure where we’re going to get another win.

I accept what you are saying Shane, I appreciate that it is a hypothetical and you can’t ignore the close loses. I was just trying to highlight how easily the narrative around the team could have been totally different but for a couple of kicks.
I can’t work out if we are over rated (especially given our good wins). I can accept a drop in output given some key players being out, but the nature of yesterday’s loss against an undermanned bottom dweller is baffling.

I was chatting to a some Carlton supporters in the ticket queue before the game, they reckoned that Carlton was a game or two from turning the corner. So, they are under-rated. We can now see that Carlton will beat a few more fancied teams before the season is done. They have good skills, run and size. And a new coach. The next Brisbane.

An undermanned opposition? We too were undermanned. Carlton had no fewer than 12 first round draft picks on the track yesterday. They came back from 6 goals down to beat Brisbane, twice came back from 5 goals down to almost beat Western Bulldogs and beat us yesterday. Perhaps if we had played them earlier in the season when they were playing poorly, apparently due to a poor coach in Bolton we may have had a win. As disappointing as yesterday was, were you really that surprised? I wasn't given our outs. We were given a hiding in the midfield clearances and Darcy isn't up to it yet outside of stoppages.

I understand where WTB is coming from.

I think we are overrated partly because like yesterday, when we have an advantage or are doing well in a game ie the 1 qtr we lack the ability to put a side away. While the overall effort from most players can’t generally be disputed our consistency and sustainability in efficient and effective use of the ball is often poor across the group except for a few players.

That was a deplorable loss to Carlton.

Darcy is very young and a lot is expected of him. If we’d had an experienced quality ruckman out there yesterday and in other games the results for us may have been a lot better.

A fair bit of yesterday is being laid on Hodor by the sounds of it. ?

There were 21 others out there that contributed.

We'd do well to remember Sandy used to win every knock , but our Hit Outs to Advantage were terrible for most of the last 10 years.

Was it Leigh Matthews who said ruckman are ovwrated??...dunno?...but getting beaten by Carlton wasn't entirely Hodor's fault, IMHO.....
