TOPIC: Head up

It was hard seeing Hogan on the bench clearly devastated thinking about going through it all again. This guy has had some incredible lows in his short life and footy career. Fingers crossed big fella hopefully you’ll be back out there soon

Lyon said the doctors reassured that the injury is not the same one of last year .....if Webber said it I'm not worried.

Yes, hoping for the best but I don’t think it’s bad luck or going to stop here.

Blind Freddy can see with a gait and running style like Jesse he’s not made for endurance running at the AFL elite level....he rocks and rolls more than an old Rotto ferry in a big swell.

Well identified Noddy. He’s got a terrible running style. Would be the first thing I’d be looking at fixing.

Of the alleged 15km he ran against Port, I’d be surprised if 70% of it was’t that ‘wobble’ after the ball that he does. Its like he’s got curvature os the spine when he does it.

Combine that with 100kg, and feet problems are the least of our worries. Back problems for sure , if not hip & knees.

Is it the same running style as before his injury

It looks odd but it seems to have served him well, whatever rocks your boat Hoges.

I reckon Shane is right - a boot problem.

- He has a sore foot.

- It gets better.

- He runs 15km in a game.

- During the week they suspect his foot might be sore.

- He plays anyway and goes off early with a sore foot.

That's not the boot. That's a series of poor decisions.

I don't know if you're right or wrong Noddy but others have unusual running styles. They didn't come more unusual than Michael Barlow and he never suffered injuries because of his running style.

Here's some wacky thinking:

Don't take talented players and 'fix' assumed problems simply because they run or kick differently. Anyone tried to 'fix' the Kennedy sewing machine or the Mundy lope?

Manage them to capitalise on all that, rather than find a way to make them run harder for longer.

Maybe then, people won't be scratching their heads about long term and recurrent injures.

It was mentioned on another thread how well the slime have managed Kennedy. They realise his value to the side is as a marking target up forward and give him space to lead into, plus generally deliver the ball well to him.

We couldn't be more opposite with what we expect our big key forwards to do. Tabener and Hogan regularly take marks up on the wing, our forward line is usually congested and the ball is not well delivered to them.

I'd be interested to know how many other team's big forward are expected to cover so much ground, in fact last week actually running further than any of our midfielders.

There’s likely more stress on bones and ligaments where a leg/calf/foot is not hitting the ground in a symmetrical way.

Any podiatrists or sport doctors out there?
