Once again Sonny has shown great leadership and role modelling. While he made a less than ideal slip of the tongue after yesterday’s game, his ownership of the error, his clear disappoint with the mistake and his on air apology actually highlights the seriousness with which he takes his status as a role model. His actions in response to making a mistake were first class. He’s a dead set legend.

He's probably the de facto captain and leader of the indigenous players, and seems content and well suited to the role he inherited from Michael Johnson.

His sprint across field in the 1st quarter yesterday, to help out Brad Hill, when he was getting scragged off the ball by a couple of Port bullies, demonstrated his acute awareness and concern for his mates. I thought that set the tone for the rest of the match.

He's a bloke you can't help but admire.

He, like D Kickett, Crowley, Hase and a few others (McPhee springs to mind) doesn't need a title to lead the side, and is probably better off doing the job the way he does, as a "do what I do" man. As an aside to the topic, I really think Fyfe has changed his approach to the leadership position this year, and is showing a much more mature and effective approach to the role. He may well have benefitted from a year or 2 more in a vice-captain role, before taking on captaincy.
