TOPIC: Hodor

Davo Hodor 4 years 9 months ago #15

The debate is over.

Darcy is in the side to win the ruck.
Darcy was up against two Port rucks with virtually no backup (Cox had ONE hit-out).

Darcy 30 hit-outs, 12 disposals.
Ryder 22 hit-outs, 7 disposals, 2 goals.
Lycett 21 hit-outs, 17 disposals.

Last quarter, game on the line.
Clearances: Freo 13-5.
This guy is 21 y.o!

English 29 hit-outs, 23 disposals.
Kreuzer 46 hit-outs, 18 disposals.

If you want a 205cm ruck rover then English is your man. If you want a bloke in the Sandilands mould to win the ruck and the game, you've already got him.

Hodor is a must keep. Hrs a cult hero...and carries a load.

There was a tap down to fyfe in thd centre square to Fyfe ( in 3 Q I think) that was pure class.

Hodor stays. He has purple blood in him...

I wonder, however, after the warm glow of victory dies down in Roly's breast, whether he'll have a moment of reflection and wonder whether he should have played Hodor from the earliest possible game, and let the 207cm reluctant ruckman with ball-catching mitts and an accurate boot instead play deep forward where he might well have lasted out the season.
I doubt it, somehow.

I just want to see Darcy (ruck) and Lobb (forward and back up ruck) in the same team.

Of course, if Sandilands can get back on the park we have a problem, a good one.

Magoos, it wouldn't have made any difference to Lobb, the problem is the training overload, not what happens in games.

I'm the one who's calling for the Darcy English trade, I thought it was really good to see the two play in back to back games on tv, Darcy played great but so did English.

Darcy, disposals-12 ,hitouts-30 , marks-2 , tackles-2 , goals-0 .0, Afl fantasy points =63

English, disposals-15 ,hitouts-29 , marks-4 , tackles-0 , goals-2 .2, Afl fantasy points =95

They both stepped up in the last Quarter to help win the game for their sides. I just think the up side of English will be far greater in time than Hodor, if we don't want to trade for English and keep Hodor it's still a good result because he is a great young ruck, if we keep Darcy there'll always be that go home factor that worries me.

Davo you did forget to mention the 2 goals from Tim English.. That being said Hodor was very good when it counted in the 4th quarter.. Hats off to the big beast!

Yep Slammen English is going to be a beauty but so is Darcy, both completely different strengths.
I kind of agree that with the way the game is going a ruckman that is like another midfielder like English could be one of the best players in the league.

However Darcy is a beast and I wouldn't want him on any other team but Fremantle.

As far as those comparisons you listed go, I don't think they really mean anything when they are playing completely different team, e.g. when Max Gawn (recognised as one of the best in the business ATM) played against Port his figures where his lowest for the year.
Disp-13, HO-21, M-3, T-4 G-0, Fantasy points 68 (they monstered him, something they couldn't really do to Darcy)

Didn’t Darcy have a bit of a niggle most of the season?

Darcy did come from Geelong Grammar but he is Tasmanian so I'm not sure the go home factor is as great?

Mob down the road would love to grab English with Natanui creaking towards his use-by date. But who says he wants to come back? He could be bleeding red, white and blue by now.

I'd personally like to lock away Hodor on a long term deal and stop all the whispers of a trade to Geelong for Kelly. Kelly is a champ but he's a midfielder and those are easier to replace than good quality bigmen, nopt forgetting we already have a more than useful crop of midfield types.
I'd much rather make sure we get Liam Henry in the next draft and try to manipulate drafting Luke Jackson who from current impressions looks to be a more complete player than Tim English even as an 18 year old. He could then move in as support for Darcy and Lobb as he matures.

I have yet to see English dominate 2 class opposition ruckmen to win a game the way Darcy did yesterday. When the pressure went on in the last quarter, he delivered in spades. That is guaranteed from him every week. Like Blakely & Walters, he is uncomplicated, tough and delivers under pressure. No-one in their right mind would trade him for any player in the AFL. ( or any 2 for that matter.)
