Strike me down if I cause a calf to tear but the time has come to discuss whether Harley should play this weekend.

In my opinion, we need his brilliance and I doubt whether another week playing in the basement is going to make any difference to his situation.

Play him but put some damn good boots on him, because the Eastside oval doesn’t seem to like lower legs.

Give him half a game in the forward line in 10 minute bursts...a goal every ten minutes.

On second thoughts he shouldn’t play on Optus until they rule out the surface as being a contributor to lower leg injuries.

It’d be cruel to get through another WAFL game this weekend and then a possible AFL away game and go bung at Optus.

That’s quite possible and I’m sure there’s enough sport science around to throw some light on the matter.

I think players are running so much nowadays with training and games that some which are more susceptible to overuse injuries are being affected by the running required. It would be interesting to know which Olympic type distance running training equates to the distances AFL players are required to train and run in a game? At a guess it’d be middle 10000/15000 mt distance runners who are built like gazelles and aren’t subject to someone stamping on their foot or changing direction quickly.

The games too quick....slow it down or shorten the game Gill Mc. A fast game is not producing high scores just boring keep it off footy.

You can see how these are tough decisions. Yes, Yes, Yes, I know that NBA is vastly different from footy, but just ask Kevin Durant, coming off a calf injury to play in the finals, then tearing his achilles, which is a nasty, sometimes year-long rehab injury. Tough decisions. I wouldn't presume to know what to do without being in clubland.

My thinking is that, assuming he can run out a game, if he plays in the AFL he's got the good medical staff and the good surface and all the lollies he can eat. I don't know what sort of condition Outdoor Fogger Oval is in after all the rain but I can't imagine it's good for your calves.

And if it's going to ping just because it's busted and it's time, at least he'll get one last big cheer as he runs onto the ground.

Noddy, I would prefer the umpires to umpire to the rules, and pay free kicks rather than throwing the ball up every time they blow the whistle, to shortening the game. The end result of enforcing the rules would be to encourage the use of skills rather than brute force, and would open the game up and see players playing to position rather than crowding the footy.
