We’ve been blessed with a swathe of great indigenous talent. Cook, Hayden, Kickett to name just a few. I have different favourites depending on what I’m thinking about at the time, e.g. none harder than Cook, love the passion of Kickett, Hayden was such a smooth mover, Chisholm great entertainment value ... the list goes on.
But when it comes to an all around talent it’s hard to go past Walters and Farmer. After the last couple of years I’ve now got SonSon marginally ahead of Jeff in terms of his importance to Freo. That’s not to diminish Jeff’s career but I dont think we saw the best of him. Either way, great to see Walters getting recognition over the last couple of weeks. Well played and well handled with the media. Long may it continue.

Love them both...and it ought be written in stone & mandated that all Freo teams must possess a mecurial indigenous forward pocket player, or the team shall not take the field.

We wouldnt be 'Freo' without one.

For flexibility, I'd go Walters...not sure The Wiz could do the midfield stuff as well as walters can. He'd give it a damned good go however.

For pure mecurial goal sense, it has to be Purple Jesus every time. Eddie Betts is OK, but The Wiz has it all over him.

Either way, both Mikey & The Wiz are in my Freo "Team for Eternity"....

Jeff was never given the opportunities to play in the middle that Mikey has had, but in brief bursts up the ground he showed he would have been just as dangerous. His kicking, footy nous and one-on-one and one-on-two skills were second to none wherever he played. Can't split 'em.

We didn't get to see Jeff Farmer at his peak but when you're not sure just how good a footballer he was, it's always worth remembering that Farmer was 174cm tall and kicked 483 goals. 76 in one season.

With no disrespect to The Wiz, maybe Mikey is a tad more 'reliable & consistent' , but for pure 'HTF?' value, Jeffery is the clear leader.

Maybe The Wiz had a greater ability to 'turn a match on its head'. Think his highlights tape will always outdo Mikey's but, geez, they are both pretty good tapes...

If you were an opposition coach and you are playing a team with both Mikey & The Wiz in it, who would you prioritize?

I'd suggest the Mikey, because 'perhaps' there would be some chance of containing him. You'd just have to put up with 'Jeffery being Jeffery'...!

What I really hope we see, is Farmer Jr & eventually a Walters Jr. And if those kids emulate even half of what their old man did, well......we will be treated to some great vision for many years to come...

I don't agree with that. We played him as a small forward and he consistently kicked goals. He rarely played a game for Fremantle where he didn't score.

His biggest problem was that he set the bar too high.

Might have me wrong Shane...in no way am I suggesting that The Wiz was deficient in any way.

Just thought that Mikey gives a pretty solid & reliable, dangerous ouput game after game. Fairly reliable to stand up in the big moments, and if I was comparing the 2, that would be one of Mikeys most redeemable features.

The Wiz had the 'game in his hands" every match too - and was no lesser performer in 'the big moments'.

I'd have love to seen him thrown in the middle more often, but can completely understand why he was permanently based in the forward half.

You'd be mad to do other wise.

He made things happen. He was great, and I'd give anything to see him still running around.

Great comments and hard to disagree with anyone. My original post wasn’t intended as a direct comparison as we didn’t get to see the best of Jeff when he was with Melbourne - it’s hard to imagine any player kicking 9 in a half of footy. But based on their time with Freo it’s touch and go.
