TOPIC: Luke Ryan

Two mins to go and the pies start chipping it around to run down the clock. De Goey then forced to kick to a contest, looks up and there’s Ryan 40 m away, circling the pack. Stupidly, he goes there anyway. Ryan intercepts and starts the play that leads to Son Son’s goal. Echoes of Houli’s butchered kick in at the same end of the G few years ago, intercepted by Ibbo and kicked to Mundy for a goal with 20s to go. They were both absolute guns, and i know its unfair to compare, but question: is Ryan already better than peak Ibbo?

As mentioned previously, we need to start promoting this guy for AA status this year. There isn’t enough recognition of how good he is on a very regular basis. The play you refer to was typical of his efforts this year.

We’ve had one AA Luke in the past, In think we’re ready for another one.

I think Luke Ryan has been our best player this year and will be leading our b&f. He should be All Australian. On the Ibbo comparison. Both are great readers of the play and intercept markers but Luke Ryan’s more attacking mindset put him on top for mine.

Kudos to the recruiters on this one. They’ve got a few wrong but Luke Ryan as a late rookie pick has been such a winner. He has great hands, is tough when the hall hits the deck and a reliable kick. He seems to be a character and great team mate too. He had a passage of play where he out played Stephenson (I think) kept the ball in was so gutsy and tough. Lotta love for him from this fan, how do I change my moniker Shane?

He's well in front of Ibbo, I reckon.

No disrespect to Ibbo, but he's a better, and more penetrating kick, as good - or better - intercept mark, and a much better runoff player.

Locks down his forward just as well.

Very interesting to look at the archived conversation on DL when Luke Ryan was drafted.

There was a lot of strong opinion that he was a complete waste of time, and a waste of a draft pick.

Those opinions were terribly wrong.

I don't think anyone thought Ryan was rubbish when drafted, most people tended to think he was a steal and pretty promising in his draft thread.

Ryan is a favourite of mine and it's great to see him getting more of a free rain to run around and be the third man up intercepting. He's incredibly good at it and his vision and disposal once he's won the ball are first class. Definite AA chance.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I dont want to drop him in it Biz, but one fellow wasn't big on him. ...(post 11, & a later one)...

He'll play a few more games than Lee Spurr.....

Funbeanman was spot on , however....

The worst I can see in that thread is pretty mild and not a slur on Ryan. "I wouldn't be expecting too much" is a pretty fair thing to say about a low draft pick.

Looking back, it's good to see 95% of comments were pretty accurate and encouraging for Ryan and he's probably surpassed all expectations.

I'm surprised I didn't have a crack at him for having two first names.

He's got two first names. He's untrustworthy. Of course, nowadays, everyone's got two names.

I bet there's a kid somewhere called Fyfe David
