TOPIC: Fyfe

I’ve often been critical of Nat. He is a great footballer. But I’ve questioned his leadership and tendency to try to do too much himself and not involve others around him.

I have to say I loved his game today. Whilst he was in the thick of it when Collingwood had possession he ran back heaps to help across half back and intercepted a number of attacjs and launched our counters. It was a leaders gane. Well done Nat.

Agree, and he is a battering ram around the packs.

If only he could stop giving it back to the opposition. I suppose even the best of us have our foibles.

I though it prophetic his lack of kicking skills pin pointed Sonny in a flooded forward line.

RPG, I think it is more likely that Mikey pinpointed his lack of kicking skills and found the footy in a crowded forward line.

I only watched the last two minutes, lets see who the journo's agree with.

(I listened to the entire game)

I think Fyfe has worked on his kicking. But it is such an unforgiving game. Some of his passes only missed their mark by about 20cm, but that is a miss and the opposition waltz away with the ball. Mind you, he's not alone - Mundy misjudged a few passes into the attacking 50.

He gives 100% and suffers the Aussie tall poppy syndrome.

I didn't think his kicking was actually that bad overall yesterday.

Sometimes I wish he wasn’t captain so he could just do what he wanted on the field instead of doing the team thing.

Bring back the one handed hangers, the checkside goals from 40 of his wrong foot and the reckless hunting of the football with no regard for his or anyone else’s body (nor the defensive side of the stoppage).

One thing's for sure, he pushes himself as hard as any player in the competition, does whatever seems possible for his team, and leaves nothing out there. Sometimes at the end of games he looks absolutely spent to the point of exhaustion.

Does he play CHB until Pearce returns? He has all the attributes for the position, and is probably a better kick than Pearce.

That would be a waste. Chuck Logue in there.

I think that our entire game mentality could change with Fyfe at CHB for 3 or 4 weeks. His marking, and long kicking down the middle would give us a chance to attack hard and fast. Collingwood were caught out after half time by our use of the corridor, and seemed to think we would revert at some stage to the boundary hugging of Lyon Strategy. Logue to come in for Pearce for sure, but play him on the ball and forward. I don't think he could slot straight in and gel with our defense, Fyfe covered for Pearce brilliantly on Saturday, and has more footy smarts than Logue. Logue could do the job if we were to go back to the "keep the opposition under 4 goals, and we will try to score 4 goals 2" game plan, but with our new attacking strategies we need a smart footballer back there.

Some on here have claimed that Collingwood play a boundary line style of game, citing them as a beacon of success for Lyon's style of play, and something for Freo to strive to emulate, but my observations from the other night showed that they went through the corridor most times they went into attack. And when they switched, they did it quickly, not waiting for players to position themselves for "set plays".
