Another shining example today of why the time remaining in the quarter/game shouldn't be shown.
Collingwood mark the ball with an easy shot on goal with 6 sec to go in the 3rd quarter and decides to play on, handballs to another player, then to another player and the siren goes before the kick on goal.
Freo win by less than a goal.
A countdown clock (or a runner for that matter) and Collingwood wouldn't have played on with a result which could have major implications come finals time.
Besides, it's much more exciting when you don't know how much time is left and Sonny has the ball in hand.

I'm surprised they allow them to hold the red card up to indicate there's not much time left at the end. Remember John Barnes used to don the red cap as the runner and it was banned.

But I tend to think Demetriou cared more about the spirit of the game than McLachlan does.

There is an easy fix. The AFL instructs the broadcaster to show only an elapsed time clock. Make it part of the next tv rights deal if they don't have the power to do that.
Would clubs then go to the trouble of having someone in the box manually time the games? I doubt it.
In any event it would make it more exciting in close games for everyone watching.
