How is it that our approach can be so different from the Adelaide game to today?

What is it that sees us play a totally different way? Is it the players, opposition, ground or is it just the way it turns out.

In the first minute you saw the Dockers try and get the ball in the hands of Wilson and kick it direct. And you thought it will be different today. A flogging but different approach.

It's crazy, isn't it. What got us back in the game was the start of that third quarter when we put someone forward of the ball. Three quick goals, simply because we were able to move the ball into the forward line without having to wait. The second quarter though...

Watching a bit of the opening quarter of Adelaide vs Melbourne, I'm thinking that it is Adelaide who dragged us down to their level.
But someone (Hypen?) said they wouldn't mind us going down, and long as we went down trying to win, rather than trying not to lose - and we definitely played as though we were trying to win. The team is starting to click.

What I see is all these naturally attacking players: Fyfe, Walters, Hill, Wilson, Hamling, Blakely, Hogan and Mundy.

When they play the way they did today they really seem to believe. We kept getting them out the back and probably should have won by five goals.

I still need to understand why we don't play that way as a matter of default. And I'm starting to think it might be the confidence of the players driving it all.

There are two Fremantle teams this year. You’ve just got to hope the one that wants to win shows up to play most of the time instead of the other one that wants to try and stop the other team winning by too much.

What's confidence?

The game was won with 30 seconds remaining. If they lost by 4 points we'd be lamenting poor skills, a dysfunctional forward line and turnovers costing the game.

Freo competed but I spent more of the game with my eyes closed and my fingers crossed than with any confidence of my own.

Two weeks in a row Luke Ryan has taken a crucial contested mark at half back with a minute or so remaining which has then set up our final entry back into forward 50 to score. What a champ.

I've not always been a fan of his, but kudos to Nathan Buckley for his after match presser refusing to baited over the goal review/not review and giving credit to our boys as the best team won on the day. David King's comments were totally ridiculous and sounded like he lost money on the result. Brereton later tonight also said this not a factor in the result as it happened in the third quarter and a point result could have given us a chance to goal and score a seven point play. It happened at a stage of the game when we were well on top and had locked the ball in our forward half.
Also no comment on the blatant push in the back on Lobb just prior to DeGoey's snap goal or the non payment of a 50 metre penalty when a Collingwood player chucked the ball on the ground after a free kick very similar to the one on Tucker a couple of weeks ago. The 50 would have put our player well inside the 50 metre arc.

I’m sure you’re as uncomfortable agreeing with Ol’ Turkeyneck Brereton as I am Gumnut, but that was spot on.

And with 27 seconds left, we win the final centre clearance, and brilliantly create the final scoring opportunity. That was a little icing at the end. Emphatic.

Duman back has changed our matchups and play. Lobb losing the ruck means its easier to pick off the opposition taps. Less talls forward means we have more run and carry. The last two weeks neither side has played a spare back (or not much) Effort earlier in the season built a belief. Blakely back has added some class. Tucker and Hughes continue to play their roles. Our last Quarters are strong. We have one of the most consolidated sides – ie less ins and outs. Few in-season injuries. All these and more add a little extra each game. Oh yeah and we have a good experienced coaching department. Continued success will bring umpire respect and more frees in critical situations.
Todays result was also in part due to more players winning the ball around clearances ie not just Fyfe and Mundy. Our recent arrivals Lobb and Hogan are very good contested players.
(Hawkins should be rubbed out)

Atmosphere at the G was great. More of us than usual as lots come over as public holiday. After fame lots in the pubs I went to and in hardware lane fir dinner. Met Sandis cousin. Our 2995 retro scarves got lots of admirers and even locals congratulated us because they didn’t barrack for Collingwood.

It was a good game. Close and played in a fair spirit magpie supporters are a good bunch and thought we played well and they played badly.

Woke at 7 this morning a little worse for wear but hearing Liverpool supporters dining in the streets. It’s goid to be a winner.

We have Hill senior Sandi and hopefully Bennel to come in. Love sing Pearce is tough but we might yet have a good year.
Please Ross let the players play aggressive attackig footy wins like this lift all our hearts.
