'Coaching better than ever' now this. Maybe he was just asked the question, but it is sounding like an uncomfortably hard sales pitch.
Meanwhile in the EPL, Brighton & Hove Albion have just moved on their coach for one losing streak that only just avoided relegation. Chris Hughton is quite likeable but is replaced by a guy with a fresh approach and a good, recent, record of steering floundering teams to acheive success without years of rebuild. He comes at a reasonable price.

Similarities with Fremantle are self-evident, including that the players liked the coach, but there are differences too
- Fremantle can't get relegated
- Its head coach is coaching better than ever, which doesn't get called out by the club
- In AFL teams influence on performance is diffused among a team of assistant coaches (where the evidence shows the better ones moving on, or getting fired)

All of which dilutes the pressure to perform, to the advantage of the incumbent. 4 years into the eternal rebuild, I'd say things are changing, slowly. Ross's effusive relief after the game, seems to indicate that the club are ramping up the performance measurements this year.

Perth Glory and Brighton (read the article) both play 'negative football' (which infers there is a such a thing as positive soccer), which got them so far - promotion for Brighton, grand final for the Glory - but didn't quite get the ultimate prize. Brighton have turned to a new coach with a different game plan, while Poppa rues his jinx against the more attacking Sydney, who only had to go to extra time due to an umpiring mistake that cancelled their goal.
The lesson is that even if you don't let in goals, if you get obsessed with that to the exclusion of scoring then you won't win the big games. Ross does seem to be trying something different this year, but so far he and his coaching team seem to be feeling their way.

Roly is pulling out the same old gunk that Malthouse did before he got harpooned. The game has past him by at the speed of light....no question....results speak volumes about his inability to change his coaching style/game plan. We have a talented list arguably better than Carlton, St Kilda, North Melbourne, Bulldogs, Gold Coast, Essendon, Sydney and Hawthorn and on a par with Port, Adelaide and Brisbane playing like a rabble dazzled in the headlights of the Lyon express.
Blind Freddy could argue that Lyon is the handbrake holding back a team that should be in the top 8. Have a look at all the critical data and it shows a team of individuals who have either not bought into Roly's game plan OR cannot adhere to his coaching philosophies.
This is a desperate attempt by this coach to stuff his retirement nest egg to the detriment of this club we love. It is interesting that the Football Manager has declined to publicly support this stunt.
