We've got pick 11 and the AFL site is saying we're interested in Jack Mayo from Subi and Jarvis Pina from Peel. They're new names to me. Does anyone have any insight on them?? Earlier we were also linked to Declan Mountford at Claremont and Dillon O'Reilly from East Freo.

We were also linked to Sth Aust ruckman Grassy Knoll, but Essendon have pick before us and are said to be using it on him.

Pina is a peel colts play who makes a good cocktail. Mayo has played two league games. Not sure of his position but have heard he spreads well.

In my continuing series where I whinge about nepotism and proper process, I have an issue with this selection.

He is the 18 year old son of a Fremantle board member, overlooked in the draft last year, playing WAFL reserves, and we take him as a top up player in a pre-season draft, designed to clubs to take AFL ready players to fill gaps on the list.

At best it's a bad look.

(But he is a lovely kick)

A dumb question- are these mid season picks with clubs for the remainder of the season and then they go back into the free for all draft? If so, clubs are essentially investing in and showcasing players that they may not have next year. Interesting!

Their contract goes until the end of the season but I think at that point they are in the same spot as any other player out of contract. The club can re-sign them if they want to.

If the club doesn't want them after that, they get a cheque for their trouble.
