TOPIC: The Good and the not so good - vs Brisvegas

Good:
The win - and everything noted above; purple33 had the game day earrings on (for sure).

Not So Good:
Just over 36,000 to a must win home game in the Indigenous Round on a bloody pearler of a WA autumn afternoon is pathetic. I hope Cockburn Control take notice before it gets to look like high street Subiaco on a Everything Must Go At Rock Bottom Give Away price sale.

The good, the whole of our defence. They tirelessly tidy up the mess our so called forwards make week after week, they must think ‘oh god here it comes back again’. Huge hand to Hamling, Pearce, Ryan, Duman and Wilson.
The bad, without the above and the likes of Barra and Hill , we’d have lost by a shed load.

Cockburn control won't take notice until they consistently get sub-30,000 crowds, and that's where it's heading. We're are all sick of this crap surely. We won, but it was rubbish football. Our list is pretty good on paper, I believe, but put 'em on the paddock, we're a rabble. We dodged a bullet today. Those in the coaches box all need to go ASAP. Completely bereft of ideas. That was a poor performance today, despite the result. Nothing can be taken away from this. Collingwood will slaughter us next week. We can recruit as many guns as we like to rectify our perceived weaknesses, but it will all come to nothing unless we address the real issue - Ross.

I wouldn't call it rubbish football. And while I too expect Collingwood to slaughter us, an honourable loss would not be out of the question.
And you may have noticed that we did play more adventurous attacking footy today. I guess the players just ignored instructions - which would explain why Ross went round giving them hugs after the game.

I reckon Hughes also had some clutch moments and did his part.

I have definitely liked Swita's desperation over the last few weeks and again today.

He just seems to find that last bit of oomph to run down a player or smother the ball.

The Good
Lobb could be a 60-70 goal a year FF.

The Bad
He will be our #1 ruckman until he breaks down.

Lobb - top work today, aside from that erroneous kick.
Brad Hill - really got into it in the second half, it's been a while since I've seen so many line breaking runs from a single Freo player.

The not so good - Hogan looks completely clueless and not physically upto AFL grade footy at the moment.
Rebounds - better than previous week's but a huge issue with our ability to convert forward entries into goals.

Bennell in next week for mine, history shows he's more likely to get injured during training than during an AFL game, so if he pulls up alright, bring him in for a run. Lobb is going to need some support as well.

Bennell he's played what 4 games in 4 years or something. Do you really think he is battle hardened for AFL?

Someone on the radio before the game said that Freo is lacking leadership in the forward line. Post-Pavlich it seems obvious but it's true.

Pearce is captain of the backline, Fyfe is captain of the midfield but who is leading up front?

Davo,

That person was Brett Peake and I thought his comments were pretty interesting. I didn't agree with his conclusiuons based on those observations but the observations were certainly thought provoking.

As far as leadership is concerned, Pearce, Hamling and Wilson are all backline leaders. With the mids, I don't see Fyfe impacting in a leadership role. He's our best individual player but has never been our best onfield leader. It used to be Neale and very obviously so but now it's Mundy and Walters who are our biggest leaders in the mids. Rory Lobb has also shown leadership traits but the midfield is short on leaders.

You are right about the forward line. To be fair the forwards, they get chopped and changed so much that it would be nearly impossible for players to develop leadership skills in their current situation. Better stability and better cohesion would see that situation change dramatically but it's unlikely that we will see that happen in the short to medium term.

Larkin, he doesn't need battle hardening , whatever the hell you mean by that, he needs battle. Bring him in and play him, he is less likely to break down playing than at training or Peel, so just play him. He may well be the policeman we need in our forward line to get it functional.
