Had a good look at the Essendon game last night, forced myself to watch it.
When we hit the corridor we created scoring chances from an open forward line, with players running out from goal to the ball.
I'd love to know the entries to scoring ratio when using the boundary to score goals. Its so obvious its not working, that its giving the opposition time to push numbers back.
I saw a piece of play in the first quarter where Wilson or Walters had the ball deep in defence, he looked wide and said "nup, I'm kicking it in the middle to Mundy, I will show a bit of the ball to his Essendon opponent but I'll back Mundy". Mundy won the mark, down the guts to Fyfe and Fyfe into an open forward line. Ed Langdon or Matera it was I think who marked and goaled.
Its so obvious its the right way to go and I don't believe they are under instructions to "hug the line". I think the question is how much risk is the coach prepared to take or is it the player? Are the players scared to take on the corridor?
Do we need to put our better kicks in better parts of the ground to transition properly?
