TOPIC: The Good and the not so good - vs Essendon

Walter the baker The Good and the not so good - vs Essendon 4 years 11 months ago #1

Walter the baker
As I’m now based in Melbourne this was my first chance to see the team live this year. I’m not sure what the game looked like on the box but it was pretty ordinary in the flesh.

The Good
Mundy ... again
Ryan ... again
Pearce ... (except for his poor disposal)
The umps for giving us two charity goals in the last quarter

The not so good
Our lack of vision - so many times players were free or on a lead and they were ignored.
Our lack of polish. Players delivering hospital handballs and fumbling.
Our poor decision making and panic with the ball.
Essendon were almost as bad but had speed through the middle.
Joe Daniher is a tosser
Putting it on top of Tabs and Hogan heads is not a recipe for success
Cerra seems to have lost his way

The very not so good
I don’t know how many more seasons of this crap I can put up with. 2 good seasons doesn’t represent a good investment over 25 years of support.

Good :
nothing
Bad :
everything else
Very, very bad :
I turned channels from sport to news, because watching the election coverage was more entertaining than the 4th qtr of possibly the worst game I've ever seen.
Unacceptable :
if Ross Lyon doesn't go, and go right now.

Good summary WTB. Seems R. Lyon agrees with but, sadly, seems to be doing nothing about it.

Lyon continuously talks of missed opportunities, skill errors and a lack of polish. And he was at it again post match tonight. Almost talking in third person.

There is no acceptance the way they are playing their football may be contributing to these failings.

I fear the worst for our club.

RoLy’s post match pressers are really starting to give me the yips. He quotes a lot of stats and tells us what we already know, ie we didn’t take our chances, we learn from our mistakes, we’ll review and move on, we just need to tweak a few things, yada yada. The problem is we don’t learn and we don’t improve. It’s just self serving rhetoric and cliches. It’s time for the cobblers to do some cobbling or bugger off.

Cobblers! It's time to just take that second option WTB.

How can cobblers do cobbling when they need to make footy boots but served their apprenticeship learning from a bloke who makes clogs?

You missed Prior Kepler. Since the Suma saga, coaching has been a concern.
Its not the players. I'm glad you mentioned Tucker, he fought well all game. Hamling too and of course Fyfe.
We have good players but no coherent method.
Lions led by donkeys.
Yeti, Walter: we win together and we lose together, I think is the mantra. We are all together you see.
Tony Sage would have acted years ago, and would not admit use of the word rebuild..

There is nothing that was good about today. Nothing.

You left out dropped marks Walter. I must have seen at least six easy ones dropped within scoring range by Hogan, Tabs and Cox. Hughes who had taken good defensive marks also dropped one 30 metres out in last quarter.

Suker
Apart from the usual class by Mundy, return of Blakely, Fyfe etc...But,
My main highlight is the continuing progression of Duman. Calm, aggressive and shows nous and confidence. He could also go through the middle. Keep it up Taylin.

Eventually The Good and the not so good - vs Essendon 4 years 11 months ago #14

Eventually
The thing I noticed was how despondent and unenthusiastic some of our players looked - Cox, Cerra and Langdon just didnt look to have any passion and so their efforts were negligible on the night. I think Cox, Cerra, Switkowski and possibly Brayshaw all need a spell. Why not reward the likes of Bewley, North, Schultz and Crowden and surely Macarthy didn't really deserve to be dropped - I think we have missed him.
