So our next 3 games are Brisbane(H), Collingwood(A) and Port(H). On current form we will lose these games leaving us at 4 wins and 8 losses requiring probably 9 wins from our final 10 to be sure of a finals spot which with the talent on our list was always a realistic target given our reasonable start.
Given this scenario and that a finals spot(no more) was a realistic target for Ross to achieve this season when do we draw the line and say Ënough Ross, you gave it your best shot and there's the door.
I hate the idea of sacking coaches but facts are a lot of the talent on our list has got worse with Ross 'coaching and game style. There is a reluctance to take the game on and attack especially from our young talent like Cerra and Brayshaw who both look badly in need of a rest, whilst the best fit, until yesterday, ruckman on our list has been condemned to the WAFL and looks more likely to be used as trade bait to get Tim Kelly.
I am really frustrated and starting to lose my enthusiasm for the rest of the season after our last three games, all inexcusable losses.

Why would Tim Kelly want to come to us particularly when he wasn't interested last year? More money but waaay worse team?

When one of your most experienced players just lacks dicipline to kick straight from 20mtrs out with virtually no angle to talk about but instead lazily walks off his line at right angles to the goal posts and tries a screw kick which luckily scrapes in for a point says it all. Well coached players whose heads are in the right space just don't that. They play like their on the training track. Watching tigers today shows how top teams need to play. With aggresion, skill and being well drilled.

Well that's true now but it was a topic mentioned on one of the footy shows a few weeks ago when we 2nd on the ladder and the word was that Kelly was more open to coming to us and that we were the only ones who had room in our salary cap to accommodate him following his great start to the season. As it is our recruiting over the last two seasons is like one step forward and two steps back with Kersten and Cam Mac who arrived with great fanfare but both now facing uncertain futures and this year Colyer and Conca playing more as cannon fodder than match winners. The 3 positives have been Lobb, Hogan and Matera but by using Lobb in the number one ruck position we are effectively pushing our most talented ruckman out the door. As for our midfielders in the WAFL I watched my beloved Tigers beat Peel yesterday with Jye Bolton giving a midfield brigade boasting the presence of Bewley, Giro, Crowden, Colyer, Schultz, North and Valente a lesson in how to play the game. Why we have never picked this guy I don't know as he would probly slot into our best 22 at the moment.

It doesn't matter who is in our best 22 anymore. As difficult as that is to acknowledge, its an inescapable fact. Adding in another WAFL midfielder who is good isn't going to alter anything whatsoever - look at how Gibson is going with Carltoon, even more apt look at how Carltoon are going now that the VFL's best ball getter is with them.

So give the Bolton thing a miss will you - Tim Kelly isn't going to save us either. Bringing Blakely in this weekend didn't either. For years Neale never did, but look how Brissie are going - Blind Freddy knows what that is telling everyone.

Inescapable truths.

I have been largely agnostic about Ross Lyon because he did get us into finals a few years ago including a GF which we should have won. However I have lost confidence in his ability to inspire the team and particularly the younger players in recent times. Inspiration that generates effort and also the development of skill and an updated game plan.
So here's my list of possible replacements:
Current coaches - Clarkson or Hardwick
Assistant coaches - Longmuir or Cox (that will please the Eagles!)
Non- coaches at present - Hodge (he's going to be a beauty as a coach).

I know what you're saying Polly and I do agree with you. I'm just highlighting though with the Bolton issue is how we have stacked our reserves with players who, whilst they are enthusiastic, apart from Valente and North who are just finding their way this season they do not look like reaching the level of performance achieved by Bolton over a long period and we also have 2 dinosaurs wandering around in WAFL, Jones and Meek.
We could do a lot worse than putting one of our TBA injured on ice for the season and drafting Bolton or a WAFL player of your choice that may have an impact in our top side. Unfortunately they will then come under the unimaginitive guidance of Roscoe. Which comes back to my earlier point, when do we pull the trigger, this season and try to salvage something or wait till after the season is over and then say goodbye to Ross?

Get Longmuir, Hodge & Sumich. They have footy brains, can communicate with their players, and more importantly will get respect from the playing group.

I argued it three seasons ago, i wont keep banging on about it (my opinion hasnt changed). Sadly, we could be in our third season with a different approach to football - or seven Derby wins to the better.

But, please don't expect a player to come in and lead the rebuild, or save us. It ain't going to happen because it's an impossibility.

Long time listener (reader?) but haven't posted in a long time. Been living in Japan and have been back in Aus a couple of months. Got to see the Richmond game and the Essendon game live. We do pretty good in the back line and the midfield in my opinion. The forward line, even WITH the 'big forward' we've been waiting for since that Murphy bloke was running around, still absolutely sucks. Especially on the weekend and last week, we had absolutely no identifiable system in fwd 50. Hale and Guerra have to go I reckon. J-Lo would be a great fwds coach.

The forward line is not drilled to any system, at least it is not visible to me. Tab presents up the ground like a centre half forward should. He still had 17 touches and 8 marks. Hogan sometimes leads up the ground. That is it as far as identifiable system goes. There is rarely space, due to slowness of ball movement and lack of movement by the forwards.
If I have to see tab, hogan, cox, lobb etc compete in the same space for the same mark again...I'll will really flippin lose it.

Why does no one focus on David Hale? He is supposed to be our forward coach and clearly has done nothing? Why aren’t Dockerlanders and everyone else petitioning to sack him?
Totally useless, doesn’t know how to marshal a forward line or just doesn’t care??

PG, it starts from the top, Hale may be a good forwards coach, but we will never know, because there is only one way at Freo.

To be fair to David Hale our delivery into the forward 50 stinks. So what are the forwards meant to do? Plus they spend half the game running the length of the field. Yes I can see they aren’t making leads to the right spots and often all run to the same spot instead of creating space for another. But I think a lot of that stems from our method of moving the ball into the fifty. The overall strategy from the head coach doesn’t help our forward coach at all.
