So do you think Morgan that under pressure our players get too far up the ground under pressure they go wide, blast the ball in?

I played hockey on the weekend (its over 60's, so I use those words loosely), and we were getting slaughtered in the first quarter (they have quarters now). Our opposition looked cool, skilled and clinical. Second quarter we turned them into a rabble. Basically we tried to cut out their square passes in the midfield. The hockey equivalent of denying them the corridor.
The moral of the story remains - teams look great if you let them play how they want to, and a lot less so if you don't.
Which is to say, I guess I agree with a lot of the ABR squad here - we can be too predictable and one dimensional.

Hypen, every team would like to go down the middle, and every team would like to stop the other team going down the middle, so I reckon how often a team goes down the middle is a sign of how well they’re going, not a cause.

Squaring into the centre is the hardest kick in footy. Most of the time teams go through the middle it is off a turnover. So you mostly do it if you force the other team to cough it up. If the other team is too timid and only go down the line, even if you win it on the boundary very few teams manage to centre into the corridor. They either go down the line or round the back where there are no defenders.

We looked like we attacked against North because they took the game on kept messing it up. Same with GWS.

Adelaide didn’t even try.

I’m sure we could try taking the game on a bit more. I think that’s a valid criticism. But to say Lyon starting by saying go down the middle, had some success, then pulled the boys in and said ‘hey, stop doing that’ makes no sense.

The game will be more open under the roof against Essendon because that’s how they play. It won’t be Lyon saying ‘the pass through the middle is back on lads.’

I honestly think this club would benefit from a change in direction.

The last two weeks have been thoroughly deflating.

What is undeniable is something has changed from the GWS game, if it's opponent related ok. I just think good teams always play their way and emerging teams endeavour to always play their way.

I am worried that we look physically shot and it is only round 9. The team has been fairly settled but it may be time to make a few changes. I don't rate Essendon at all, they play soft, unaccountable footy, but we have all but stopped so they will be favourites.

I would play Blakely, Bewley, Maccarthy and Logue this week and leave out Colyer, Brayshaw, Nyhuis, and Cox.

Making player changes will not cure the "physically shot", that is only cured by making strategic changes. The reason our AFL level players in the Peel side are not playing is because Lyon does not think they are fit enough for his game plan. Half the team that went out on the weekend was not fit enough for it either. He has an unrealistic game plan, and will not change it. So the problem will never be solved.

Anyone who thinks Blakely was not fit enough to take the field in an AFL game last week, is drinking the Kool-Aid. And if he was not fit enough to play, how is a few match simulations gunna get him there? Darcy came into the AFL "not fit enough" to play on his debut, but smashed it. All of a sudden the selectors think he, this year needs 20 weeks at Peel before he is ready to play. Get rid of the clowns at the top (coaching & admin) and start again. The under 10's coach at Joondalup could give the players a better coaching mantra than what we have got now.
