Me …. and you
God only knows
It's not what we would choose to do
Interesting observation from an unlikely source, on a day when a lot of us may be left feeling more than a little bit grumpy about the football team we choose to follow:
I called in for a coffee at my regular this morning. The barista, knowing I’m a Dockers tragic, asked “bad weekend?”, so I spent a few seconds mansplaining how Freo were given a football lesson yesterday by a Richmond team that seemed to be better in almost every respect.
She replied that I had, unwittingly, demonstrated what she, in her limited experience (self-confessed disinterest in footy), sees as a major difference between your average Dockers and Egulls supporter.
She reckons that, when the Weagles lose a game, their mob are always full of complaints about what-ifs and should-have-beens; biased umpiring and cheating opponents; that the AFL has it in for them with too many 6 day breaks and unfriendly fixtures.
She said that, like other Dockers supporters, I generally make a habit of critiquing my own team for being muppets and, more often than not, grumble that the Dockers just aren’t good enough.
Is she correct?
