Not too sure about that, RR, they haven't caught onto to that " there's no forwards, we will put some there" thing yet.

And would you rather have all the lights and music and ra ra ra stuff, or this:

Thanks Rocks, truly spectacular. Fans will create it all, they don't need prompts. All the wit and genuine passion is out there already. Freo people have been underestimated by the mad kooks who thought flashing lights and stupid noises will create atmosphere.

Stoke City fans singing Delilah pre match...

No need for Americano razzamatazz style crowd rev-up at an English footy game.

Delilah...pure joy.
Our admin strategy feels like it actually stifles the crowd's natural input.

I'd rather learn from the EPL than from the Americans.

Everyone always blames the Americans. It's not their fault that we do this stuff.

Some Americans went - "How can we sell more tickets?". So they did stuff and some of it sold more tickets.

Then we do stuff, poorly, and people go - bloody Americans.

Good point, Matt. Let Cometti be the scape goat. He's a Weagles supporter, so he deserves it (at least, a little bit!).

And Shane, you're correct to say that we can't blame the Americans for influencing the weak-minded fools involved in footy marketing depts into taking the easy option, and simply copying whatever the Yanks do over there.

I'm in a very agreeable mood today.

Gameday traditions grow over time, usually organically. TNT took off because Chris Connelly thought it was a cool idea and relevant to the club. Never Tear Us Apart was part of a pre-game montage before Port home games and took off from there (Kochie was a fan, apparently).

The problem with Freo’s gameday presentation isn’t that it’s too American, it’s that they are so keen to fill the space, but too scared to try anything interesting or give it space to grow: it’s the synthetic grass of entertainment.

Freo has a partnership with Curtin University. I’m sure they’ve got a video editing / multimedia degree. As a place to start, take the best 11 students, give them $2000 each, and get them to come up with their own pre-game montage. Play a few before the game over the season. It would be genuinely interesting to see what they came up with, and it would be different every week.

Yes Shane. I'm not criticising the Americans, just our marketing people for copying them. I wouldn't copy everything from the EPL either. We should copy the best of everything from the whole world - and also as Morgan says, allow things to grow organically.
But if you want something to grow organically, you have to leave space for it, and the current bods in charge don't believe in leaving space for anything. They are scared of the quiet moment - as if everyone might collectively go, "Hey, this is boring, lets go home".
Somebody give me the marketing manager job.
