TOPIC: Inexcusable Loss

Everyone has a bad day. We were tired. They've got the wood on us. Any excuses I've missed?

That was a pathetic performance at home to be beaten by a massively undermanned team.

Think of who they had out and imagine if we had similar

Reiwoldt-Tabener or Hogan
Rance-Pearce
Cotchin-Mundy
Rioli-Matera
Vlaustin-Wilson or Ryan.
During the game
Nankervis-Lobb
Don't know who the other injury was but hopefully you get my point..

If we were a decent side they should not have got near us tonight. The fact that they beat us easily is a real concern. We were 6 and 2 at the same time last year and with a much better squad and less injuries we are now 4 and 4.

yep was definitely a step back. Richmond, despite not having their best players did play as a team and got the job done. Their game plan was simple pressure, tackle, turnover, run hard and get the ball forward and luckily it all fell into place. We couldn’t handle their pressure, run, strength and got punished at ground level. So much for all the talls in our team. Talls are overrated if they can’t take a mark. Then they are just become a liability.

Maybe a team of strong midfielders who can kick, tackle, and run hard instead of all the talls might work better for Freo. They can’t find their tall forward targets anyway.

Roly plays roll-your-sleeves-up blue-collar football that tires your players and wastes their natural talent.
Good teams set up to counter-punch efficiently and catch us out like today. Like previous years, the I50 count is overrated. The 2nd derby against another side that runs from the back half could be a blowout. I wonder how players like Wilson, Langdon think about our structures and how their efforts get wasted. Ross "We go down together" well the players get frustrated at lack of options to kick to, and the players don't seem to understand the required structures. Nice long-range goal by Colyer in the last by the way.

NPK, we went down the mids path. It didn't work. How about the players are trained to use the ball to the advantage of the talls we do have, when we actually do that, we look like a team.

I just remember us talking all week about being ready for an ambush - then we got ambushed.

Undermanned? 22 v 22 as far as I could see. They played fast, aggressive, attacking team footy. They killed us. Simple.

Any side that plays fast attacking skilful football alwys beats us. That's why sides like Hawthorn, Collingwood, WC and Richmond have beaten us consistently over recent years.
Why is this? Because they play just about an opposite style of football to us. And their coaches have an opposite mind set to ours.

They had a relentless enthusiasm, like we showed in our gws last quarter and some of the north game. They refused to be stifled and kept running through in waves unimpeded. It was torture to watch. I can usually see some positive but I am struggling to bring it out...comprehensively beaten.

I was pretty shattered after the game.

We have no system forward of the centre.

My take, we are one big body mid short Fyfe and Mundy are great, Son son is a star but cant play inside mid he is too slight and you take away his best attributes which are speed and kicking. We need to bring in Bewley Crowley or Blakely

We are too big and slow in the forward line Hogan, Tabener and Cox cant coexist. I thought Cox should come in for Cammac it was a mistake.

The good I saw Matera tried he kicked 1.4 a couple he just missed at least he has a go.

Cox was plying too high, but this always seems to be the case Lyon needs to play him and Tabs closer to goal, as others say a forward is more dangerous leading to the ball rather than running away from it.

We are I think improving, we arent getting blown away but our game style is ugly, This is Ross and its what he will dish up, for me its time for a change. We have the players to play a fast attacking game we showed it against GWS and the Roos. Time to cut the apron strings Ross. let them shine.

Agree that it's time for a change but he isn't willing to do it. So the change that is needed must be the coach.

I've generally stayed out of the Roly should stay Roly should go debate. Being from the country I don't get to many games but I've been to the last two home games and I'm not seeing the results we should be producing with the squad we have.

It's sad to see how average Wilson has become, how little progress there is in Cerra and Brayshaw, how little influence Hogan has in a game compared to his previous team, how little run or attack we get from half back or how hard it is to be Fremantle forward.

I've got no interest in semi past glories. It's a coach's job to be successful and he's got no reasons anymore not to be. I've seen and had enough and want a change.

Cox got into the play during junk time last 10 mins, but before that, he was nowhere. If cammac continues with spasmodic effort, then I would rather bring in Duman as the rangy, running forward. Duman would present a whole lot more than either cox or cammac.

Deckchairs. Richmond would have belted any Freo team Lyon put on the park.

The Richmond game was such a disappointment.
They jumped us and we spent a great deal of energy to get back into the game but after halftime the game was a bridge-too-far. The players looked tired when they had to run and chase. We played catch-up football from about 10 minutes into the game. The ball was moved out of our forward line far too easily and too quickly. Seems like Richmond had done their homework on our team and it appeared that the way the tigers played was a complete surprise to our coaches as they couldn’t change the way we moved the ball. Richmond had all the answers and made our boys look ordinary.
I’m sure our team is better than the performance dished up against the tigers but I’m not sure when we’ll be showing our capabilities on the field.

Richmond were 4.1 (25 points) before Freo scored in the first quarter. 25 points was the winning margin.
