DBTS...."the reason why everyone is so upset" (well...obviously not everyone, because there are plenty that thought this was a fine exhibition of a football match) is, that, it was a magnificent expression of all the things that Freo has been doing for quite a while now under RoLy's stewardship.:
1) horrendous disposal skills.
2) absolutely no system in the forward line
3) a reluctance to make "in-match" changes (ie it took until the 4th quarter for him to get Fyfe to move deeper into the forward half, and move Cerra into more of a midfield role)
4) a "kick the ball down the line,, knock it out of bounds" strategy ( have a real good look at our Possesion Heat Map on AFL website under match stats.)
5) Expend huge effort for little reward on the scoreboard (terrible, terrible scoring efficiency)
Yep. It was a tough , intense, high pressure, and, definitely an intriguing game.
But, ...if anyone thinks that 'style' is going to win you a grand final, well.....you are out with the fairies....
We all know what happens from here.
1) we continue to have 'honourable losses' against teams with skill, and we do well against 'undermanned' teams.
2) our players start getting exhausted, and injury toll starts mounting
3) we can all expect to watch games that continue to exhibit point 1 to 5 above for the remainder of 2019, because RoLy - quite simply- refuses to show any signs of 'change'.
That is why I - for one - am upset with Sundays game.
