TOPIC: The good and the not good

Walter the baker The good and the not good 4 years 11 months ago #1

Walter the baker
Good:
Nyhuis: great job on a great player
Pearce: solid again
Ryan: I’m still pushing for his inclusion this year’s AA team

Not good:
Cam: played a shocker. Not a great night for forwards but he was hardly sighted
Ziggy Switkowski: early days but a disappointing effort after some good signs
Lobb: might be reminding RoLy that he came over to play as a forward not in the ruck

Uncertain:
Fyfe: got a lot of the ball but didn’t seem to hurt the opposition. Lots of great inside grunt work that ended with short handballs to players under pressure. One of our better players but seems short on his best.

Agreed on all of that WTB except Fyfe I thought he was powerful today. I wish he had gone for surgery a little earlier instead of playing AFLX.
Darcy Tucker was better today.
Langdon was good but needs to learn his capabilities, seems to go for more than he can achieve sometimes.
It looked like Lyon might have moved Cerra forward late, I think to try and use his skill level. He was able to get his hands on it but not to execute. He is skilled he will learn to do this.

Lobb is feeling the effects of trying to do a job to which he is not suited. Welcome to Lyon'sville, Rory.

dont be a bedwetter. He's 207cm and we can't play all three talls and Darcy.

Bit surprised in the individual tackle counts after a game like that. Fyfe tops at 8.

Mitch Crowden might have been useful today...and even though Switoski had 6 tackles, maybe he needs a changeout....

Hes allowed to have a bad game or 2 though.

Matera couldn't find space in a game like that, and you'd think small blokes are designed to do that.

Yeah I reckon Matera and Taberner are the issue.

I thought Hogan was really poor. No second effort. Doesn't want to kick for goal. Fyfe was another. Took a mark on 50m then tries to pass it off losing it.

Drop Hoges to the magoos to get some confidence (it worked with Tabs). Move Lobb forward bring in Darcy to ruck. Drop McCarthy for Cox. Bring in Blakely for Conca or Coyler (sic).

I think Ross went to Adelaide to tie the game down and try and steal it. In the mean time he has allowed us to lose our structure forward of the ball. I am a huge Ross supporter and think we are heading in the right direction but I didn't enjoy the game today, too scrappy.

I've been to weightwatchers, so I am not such a huge Ross supporter, and I also don't think we have had any structure forward of the ball for about 6 years, so don't blame a lck of structure forward of the ball today for our loss.

I turned 51 today. It's depressing. You reach an age where you start resenting birth days, for some reason 51 is that one for me.

So I'm not in a good frame of mind from the outset, now with regard to Lyon, I want to believe. And getting my belief and support does not require wins. Just intent. I thought we'd turned a corner in terms of philosophy and game style.

I can only give the bad. I felt betrayed today. For me this was the worst performance I've ever seen. Because of what it means for the future.

And for every jellyback there's a misanthropic outlier just waiting to use someone's disappointment as an opportunity to flaunt their misplaced superior football knowledge.

You could drop every forward after today's effort. Not a winner among them, big or small. No point in pointing out one or two.

What was good was the 4th quarter.....we played open football and tried to win the game on our terms and we weren't that far of....

That is right, Hypen. It was a game we expected to attack and score, and we did neither. To say that the Crows forced us to play the way we did, or the umpires cruelled us is to ignore the obvious. We got the first goal of the game, and then tried to defend that 6 point lead. By the time the umpires made a few dubious decisions in the late part of the third quarter, we had already thrown the game away. Through no fault of the players, as some apologists would have you believe, but through a flawed footy ideology.

Gee Hypen, but harsh on Ryan Crowley there.

The good: I thought it was Andy Brayshaw's best game. Tough as nails for a 19-year-old.
Alex Pearce is the best 1:1 defender in the AFL and in a righteous world will be an AA this year..

The not so good: giving away two 50 m penalties.
