I for one am sick of Freo being constantly shafted by the umpires. it was not just today but happens all the time. And i point the finger at Ross Lyon - the boys were robbed and Ross should have made a point of that just like Beverage did last week for the treatment of Naughton and look what happens this week he takes 14 marks and kicks 5 goals. Put a complaint into the AFL Freo of continue to be shafted by the umps for the rest of your frustrating existence.

NPK, if you think the umpires helped Naughton get 14 marks then good luck to you. The reality is he took 14 marks because he had talent to burn.
Adelaide deserved to win today and it would have been a steal if we had made it over the line. A couple of clangers by the umps didn’t make the difference. And if you think it’s a problem that only Freo has to put up with I suggest that you log into losing teams supporter websites each week and you can expect to find the same complaints about umps (until they win of course)

The Eddy Betts not holding the ball was a shocker, and I don't think the not giving the ball to the player after the oob was a 50m penalty offence. But overall it wasn't awful, and I haven't hated the umpiring so far this season, so its probably about right.
Where i feel sorry for the umps is the push in the back in a marking contest - just how much of a push is too much? Pretty soon we are going to have a game decided by a free paid or not paid for a blatant push in the back near the goals.

The hands in the back rule eliminated all guesswork for the umpires, so what do they do? Rescind the straightforward rule so umps have go back to deciding the force of a push or even intent...guessing. The whole reason it was brought in. Damn stupid and hasn't improved the game at all. The fight for front position is not necessary, you can "hold your ground" with a little shove in the back.
Ridiculous.

The holding the ball rule at the moment is absolutely impossible to follow. It's so inconsistent even the players stop as they think a free kick is about be paid.

WTB, Naughton's stats and free kick stats were the first thing I looked for from the Bulldogs game. I thought he made Beveredge look like a fool with his performance this week. (And showed that the umps were not to blame for his performance last week.)

WTB - i disagree - you said a couple of howlers by the umps wasn’t the difference. It at a time when the game was in the balance the betts howler, followed by the free and 50m pen changed the whole momentum and game and adelaid kicked away a little to give them the buffer they needed. in this game as in the essendon collingwood game, the umpires DID affect the result.

And with Naughton, as good as he was, the richmond defenders were pathetic on him, maybe too scared to give a free kick away after increased scrunity on him after Bev’s comments. Bev’s mind games obviously worked

I was incensed, INCENSED I tell you, at the free kicks not paid to the Adelaide players for the clear push in the back at times from Freo defenders, as I'm sure all of you defenders of the faith would also have been. I've been out in the garden this morning burning some placards in protest.

I've had to few hours to consider: Both teams played defensively, but Freo gave away - and that's the correct term to apply - three 50m penalties but received none. We lost by 17 points. Neither team could kick straight. Hogan should hang his head in shame for missing an easy shot in the opening minute. That would have produced a different game. It's easy to take the frustration out on the umpires, but a team has to kick a winning margin to get the points, and the Dockers had more than ample opportunity to score enough goals to compensate for the usual dodgy decisions.

Eddie Betts should have been holding the ball. That was an error. But the Adelaide guy was taken high and Hill should not have thrown bloody grass. Tucker should know you have to give the ball straight back. They are the rules.

I don't think they were that bad.

Defend Ross Lyon and attack umpires who make a few dodgy calls in what looked at times to be a running with the bulls ceremony rather than a game of football.
