I almost agreed with you until the last bit.

Yes I want Freo to be successful but I'm convinced that Roly isn't the one to get us there. That's the first point.

The second point, which is at least as important is his personal conduct. He should have been sacked on the spot. An ethical management would have done just that.

Teasea, don't sell yourself short. Just because my posts are longer doesn't mean they are better. Many would argue the opposite.

Hypen, I agree, but I understand that if people have a really strong negative view of Lyon it can make following the team less enjoyable and they might just want him gone at all costs.

"it's not binary" is an excellent way to sum things up...

there's too many factors involved for it to be that simple. Some want it to be of course. Binary thinkers, perhaps.

My argument for Harvey when they sacked him was that he never got the chance to show what he could do with the team he assembled. The same applies here, now. If they're going really well consistently then perhaps you look at offering a year. It doesn't sell the farm but it offers stability. That would be effectively a two year deal. After a never ending rebuild that should be enough to prove things one way or another.

Something to mull over is the chance that this team is gelling and will get better. This is the right time of the year to be doing that... there's enough grunt and experience in there. I don't think it's too early to start talking about getting Shane's trusty old fishing boat, the Threepeat back on the water.

Lyon has had his chance to show what he can do, and he has shown very little that would win a flag. Harvey got nowhere near that amount of opportunity. Lyon is the Mark Taylor of the AFL.

I've been a Roly fan since day one. He's the best coach we have ever had, better even that the good man Gerard. He now has a player list to match his talents and he and they will get better. Course thats no guarantee of a flag but I think the club is on the right path. We do have some weaknesses – in the middle for example but that could change with experience or year end draft/trade. Anyway as a 21year member thats my take.

Harvey has never been offered another senior coaching job since he was stabbed in the back and
made to look bad , to my recollection it was because there have been too many injuries or some excuse like that so that Ross could walk in and take the cream .
